Joe Manganiello jokes about Sofia Vergara’s reaction to his blue Mohawk

Joe Manganiello joked about his wife Sofia Vergara’s reaction to his new hairdo – a blue Mohawk he dyed on a whim during a break between movie roles.

‘You know, she married an actor, so she had to think the weirdness would come out at some point,’ said the Pittsburgh native, 43.

Manganiello, who celebrated his fifth anniversary with the Modern Family beauty last month, explained to the outlet that the blue Mohawk comes during a time when he doesn’t require a certain hairdo for a role.

‘Everything generally that I do looks wise has to do with some sort of role,’ the Rampage actor said. ‘This was one of the rare times when I had a couple of weeks to do something with my hair that I wanted to do.’

He said the styling decision came as one already ‘had [his] hair in a white Mohawk for a role.

‘I’m getting ready to shave it tomorrow morning completely off for another role. So I had a, like a two or three-week span where I could do whatever I wanted with it – so I just dyed my Mohawk blue!’

Manganiello had shaved his head to film for Zack Snyder’s Justice League cut, in which he plays the role of Deathstroke.

‘When Zack called me and said he wanted me to come back, I said, “Well, I’ve got a couple ideas about things I want to do,”‘ he said. ‘And Zack was really excited about them all, including, you know, the change to a more war-like Deathstroke.’

Manganiello stars in the upcoming film Archenemy as Max Fist, a man who claims he’s a superhero in a different dimension who has lost his powers.

‘It’s not a superhero movie, but it’s also not not a superhero movie,’ he told ET. ‘I read the script and thought, this is one of the craziest things I’ve ever read and I have to do this.’

Archenemy will be released December 11.
