Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson sells his five-bedroom Cornish seaside home

Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson has moved out of his five-bedroom seaside home in Cornwall after putting it on the market for £1.5million when his music career ‘took off again’ ahead of the pandemic. 

The musician, 43, first listed the impressive seaside home in Falmouth for sale last January when his career rebooted and he spent less time in the town. 

It is unclear whether the home, which Wilson purchased in 2012 with a view ‘to retire’ there, eventually sold and how much for, but the singer-songwriter moved out of the property on Wednesday.

Taking to Instagram, the reality TV judge posted an image of himself standing beside a removal van parked outside the impressive detached property – which is opposite the four-star Greenbank Hotel.

Alongside the image, he wrote: ‘Thanks to all the marvellous lads from Engage Moving in Cornwall for helping me out today. Lead by @thebear81 himself, James. 

‘You’ll be glad to know I didn’t lift a finger. I’ll be using them again when I move back down.’

Wilson previously explained he put the seaside property on the market last January because he got a ‘second wind and my career took off again’ after believing he was ‘ready for a quiet life in Falmouth.’

He added: ‘The general consensus is that you should only be a pop star for four or five years. I had outlived my time.

‘I was ready for a quiet life in Falmouth. Then I got my second wind and my career took off again.

‘In the winter, I like to close the shutter, put the fire on and listen to the ocean battering the house.

‘I bought a telescope so I could look out to sea and feel dramatic, romantic and wistful, but it doesn’t work.’    

Wilson spent four years and £500,000 restoring the mansion after moving in, and was later forced to submit retrospective planning applications after making some of the changes without permission from Cornwall Council.

As a result he has put in a retrospective application for work to the home built originally in 1797, including an open plan kitchen and dining room and paved driveways. 

The application from CAD Architects Limited, states that while Wilson got permission for some works others were started without consent.  

A spokesman said: ‘The full extent of the approved works was not implemented, and some minor variations were made to some details of the permitted works as they were completed.

‘Some works were also completed prior to their relevant planning conditions being discharged.

‘The completed works have protected the house for the medium term by attending to necessary repairs and securing uses for redundant areas of the building (principally the basement) to prevent them falling into decay.  

‘These works were completed alongside an extensive high-quality refurbishment which, due to the sympathetic approaches of the applicant and owner, retained far more historic fabric than was originally expected.

‘Overall the completed works, including the relatively few but high-impact alterations, have greatly enhanced the atmosphere and functionality of the house and its private garden areas, increasing the enjoyment of the property for its current and future owners with the crucial benefit of incentivising proactive future maintenance for the long term safeguarding of the asset.’

Other additions made without approval included a ‘secret shelving door to library’, railings to the basement stairs and new driveway gates.

He said: ‘I walked into town to buy some bread and milk, and I had this intense feeling that I could live here. 

‘I instantly felt comfortable.’
