Katie Price sparks race row among fans

Katie Price has sparked a race row among her followers after sharing an image while sporting a deeply bronzed tan, which she insisted was natural.

The glamour model, 42, took to Instagram on Tuesday to plug her new Depop upload, with one image seeing her lie on the floor in a turquoise mini dress while showcasing her deep tan which she alleged was from a holiday to Turkey.

Yet the post was met with outrage from followers as many pointed out that the tan could not be real and that she was teetering towards blackface, yet others defended the star and slammed critics for cruelty.

Katie, who shares son Harvey, 18, with Tobagonian ex Dwight Yorke, lay on the floor in the image with both her feet in casts from her freak accident last year.

She added a caption reading: ‘Lots of items worn by me coming to my Depop page tonight! – So tanned from my holiday in Turkey back in the summer!…

‘I’ll be uploading swimwear, tops, dresses, you name it, I’ve worn it! Also finally adding kids clothes! Tonight at 7pm on depop. Happy Buying. Love Katie.’

Followers soon swarmed the comments section on the picture, with one fan querying: ”why are you black?’, Katie responded: ‘it’s my tan from Turkey’.

Another fan penned: ‘I love you but you’re taking the p**s with that first image. Delete it’, before Katie responded insisting the colour was natural.

In her response to number of critics, she penned: ‘I’d just got back from Turkey, this is a natural tan but thanks for your concern… Done nothing wrong other than gain a tan from my holiday stop causing drama.

Other comments on the colour of her skin read: ‘No one going to point out how dark she’s made her skin… doesn’t even look like you. I’ve unfollowed her.

Defiant: Followers soon swarmed the comments section on the picture, with one fan querying: ''why are you black?', Katie responded: 'it's my tan from Turkey'

‘Your a wee bit browned off looking love..but in saying that, I really like the new hairstyle… That’s some spray tan… Wow your so dark.’

Katie deleted a number of messages including one which pointed towards black face and led to a defensive response from a fan who pointed toward the late Caroline Flack’s suicide and how she was treated by trolls.

Katie shared a series of appreciative hearts under the comment from the defensive fan who wrote: ‘Is there any wonder Caroline Flack took her own life with these kind of lowlife scumbags commenting such disgusting things ABOUT A TAN…

‘Worst things going on in the world. Constant knit picking at Kate all the time. Give it a pissing rest, no one cares! Certainly not Kate’.

‘If my friend posted this photo I would say the exact same thing. I do not believe this is just a tan for one second. I did engage with Katie, but unsure if comments from others turned nasty as I wasn’t online for a moment…

‘You’re talking about Caroline Flack, yet seemingly ignoring the issue surrounding colour. I have always loved Katie, my comment was not about hating on her at all… more so using this as an opportunity to educate others….

‘This image is not katie in her own skin.. I am mixed race West Indies and Welsh and I do not tan this dark. Black face is very real and it is not ok…

‘I am not suggesting Katie is promoting blackface, but she certainly does not tan this dark. Thats where the issue lies… we do care.’
