She’s one of the world’s most powerful singers who rose to fame as a member of girl group Destiny’s Child.

But last month, Kelly Rowland revealed things weren’t always easy and she struggled financially during her career.

In a YouTube interview with pastor Erwin McManus, the 39-year-old singer revealed: ‘No one would believe this, and this’ll actually be the first time I’m gonna talk about it but I almost lost everything because I was so busy trying to keep up.’

‘Whether it was the look, the car, the wardrobe, the place, you know what I mean? All that silliness. I was rich broke,’ she added.

Kelly said she called her best friend at the time and confessed she was struggling to control her financial situation.

She explained that her friend asked her when was the last time she donated money to charity.

‘I said “I don’t know, but I can’t afford to give right now”. She said “You have to. The very next cheque that you get, I need you to give”.’

‘I called my business manager and told him, he said “Are you kidding me? Have you lost your mind?” Then I got a new person in and he said “You cannot do this right now”.’

Kelly, who has now sold over 30 million records as a solo artist and 60 million with Destiny’s Child, explained she decided to donate money and ‘good things’ started to happen.

‘I give and literally the following week things just started to happen, good things and it wasn’t even necessarily financial.’

Kelly continued: ‘It was certain small things. It was just grace so I kept going and I remember calling my business manager saying “This month I’m giving 20 per cent”.’

The Destiny Child’s star went on to say that she ‘loves to give’ because it makes her ‘so excited’.
