Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler ‘struggled’ in their seven-year marriage for ‘three years’

She claimed estranged husband Jay Cutler was ‘punishing her’ in their divorce by blocking her from buying her own house, which she’s been looking for since last fall.

Kristin Cavallari and the former football player’s marriage of seven years hasn’t always been smooth sailing.

The 33-year-old has been ‘so unhappy for so long. Her marriage has been struggling for at least three years,’ People‘s source revealed.

The former reality star and the former athlete ‘were not suited for each other, even in the beginning,’ the source said.

Adding that the former pair ‘were both so busy with their careers that it was often hard to find time to be together. They lived apart a couple of times during their marriage.’

‘This takes a toll on any romance no matter how promising things looked to others.’

Kristin ‘just wants to be happy and to be a good mom. They tried to make it work for the kids, but Kristin realized Jay is not going to change,’ their insider noted.

Kristin previously revealed that how they met.

She said in 2009 Jay had called her publicist to ask if he could fly her out to Chicago and take her on a date; She had passed on it at the time because she was filming The Hills and didn’t want a boyfriend in Chicago.

One year later in 2010, she was given tickets to a Chicago Bears preseason game and was introduced to the athlete and the duo began a romance soon after.

They dated for 10 months before he proposed to her in April 2011; they called off their engagement in July but reunited by December of that same year.

They tied the knot on June 8, 2013 in Nashville, Tennessee.

They previously lived in Chicago while Jay played football with the Bears.

He played on the Bears from 2009 until 2016 and one year with the Miami Dolphins in 2017; After 11 seasons in the NFL, Jay announced his retirement from the league in 2017.

Following his retirement, they moved to Nashville.

The former Hills star filed documents on Wednesday, accusing Jay of withholding money from her, according to TMZ.

She found a home late last year that she wanted to purchase but stopped after they decided to try one more time in their marriage; after that didn’t work, and that ‘divorce was inevitable,’ they became talking about their separation in March.

She claimed Jay previously ‘never objected’ for her to get her own place.

The star also accused him of trying to intimate her into accepting an ‘unfavorable’ custody arrangement for their three kids, as well as him refusing to leave their home.

She said she signed paperwork on the $5.5 million Franklin, Tennessee home Monday not thinking there would be an issue financially after the athletes ‘lack of objection in November’ to the real estate acquisition, US Weekly reported, citing court docs.

She said she felt she believed he was ‘punishing’ her after their Bahamian vacation on April 7 when he informed her he wasn’t going to let her have money to buy the house, as she is requesting the court to make him pay her back ‘her portion of their funds.’

The estranged couple are also clashing on custody issues over their three children, as Kristin said he was making one-sided offers to her, and that it’s better for the kids if they live apart because of his tendency to ignite conflict with her.

She told the court that she ‘fears the situation will escalate’ if they continue to be under the same roof amid the pandemic.

Kristin said that they have been alternating staying in their Nashville home every three days since the Bahamas trip ended, according to US Weekly.

In the documents, the star also claims that Jay ‘informed her that his attorney was going to stop her from purchasing the house she wanted, Us Weekly‘s source revealed.

In addition, that his lawyer ‘was going to tell their business manager to not release the funds’ needed to purchase a separate home for her.

She refused the ‘settlement’ offer he proposed, because she felt like she made ‘significant financial contributions to the marital estate’ and what he offered was an ‘unfavorable amount.’

The Laguna Beach star ‘always knew that Jay was trying to keep some of his money from her. She suspected this for a while and found some type of proof.’

Kristin knew ‘that their marriage has been over’ for some time but wasn’t expecting her estranged husband to lodge paperwork to legally end their union.

The sudden move, that ‘blindsided’ her, has damaged their ‘amicable’ negotiations. ‘She had hoped they could work things out more amicably and they were off to a good start before Jay pulled the trigger,’ E! News‘ source revealed.

On Sunday, Kristin shared a snap of her and Jay walking down a street with their arms around each other.

The image featured a lengthy caption announcing their split.

In the caption, she announced their split, writing: ‘With great sadness, after 10 years together we have come to a loving conclusion to get a divorce.’

Adding: ‘We have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of.’

‘This is just the situation of two people growing apart. We ask everyone to respect or privacy as we navigate this difficult time within our family.’

However, as of Thursday afternoon, Kristin’s Twitter page still had wife included in the bio.

The 33-year-old reality star and fashion designer, who shares three kids with the 36-year-old former football player, had claimed in the documents that Jay is ‘guilty of such inappropriate marital conduct as renders further cohabitation unsafe and improper,’ according to TMZ.

In addition, Kristin claims in the filing that Jay insinuated misconduct on her part; the document says: ‘Any misconduct alleged or implied against her in the complaint for divorce was in response to and/or as a result of misconduct on behalf of her Husband,’ via the outlet.

Her date of separation, April 7, interestingly enough is the day she and Jay got back to Nashville after they were stuck in the Bahamas for three weeks, Us Weekly reported.

Jay didn’t note any ‘misconduct’ in his divorce filings and listed their separation date as April 21.

Kristin wants primary physical custody of their three kids, child support, and for Jay to pay for their health insurance.

Meanwhile Jay is requesting joint custody of their children.

They are parents to sons Camden, seven, Jaxon, five, and daughter Saylor, four.

She claimed that Jay wasn’t available as a father to their kids in her filing, which he denied in his filing.

Kristin had in her filing: ‘She denies that Husband has always been the available at home parent and primary caretaker of the parties’ minor children. Wife would show that she had been the primary residential parent.’

Jay said in his filing: ‘Husband has always been the available at-home parent and the primary caretaker of the parties minor children.’

She is also asking for Jay to maintain a life insurance policy with her listed as the sole beneficiary.

They went on holiday to the Bahamas with their three kids, her hair stylist pal Justin Anderson and his fiance Austin ‘Scoot’ Rhodes.

They weren’t able to fly back and ended up staying three weeks.

However, the duo already planned on splitting prior to their trip, according to People

‘On their recent trip, they already knew they were splitting up. Kristin and Jay had been having problems for a long time. They hadn’t spent much time together in recent months,’ their source revealed.

People’s source claimed that Kristin’s busy career and differing priorities led to their split: ‘Kristin and Jay are a lot different. She has so much on her plate, with her brands and with her show, and Jay is not as interested in all of that. She’s so passionate about her work and they couldn’t relate to each other. So it pulled them apart.’

During the last season of their reality show Very Cavallari, Kristin and her former best friend Kelly Henderson had a falling out after speculation that she and Jay were allegedly having an affair.

The former MTV reality star said she didn’t believe the affair accusations ‘not for one second’, but was opposed to how Kelly reacted to it.

Kristin believed the Velvet’s Edge blogger added ‘fuel to the fire’ by bringing up Jay on Twitter and felt she ‘was using Jay for her own personal gain.’

‘If I was accused of having an affair with your husband, I wouldn’t say his f***ing name on social media. Like, come on,’ Kristin complained to friends Justin Anderson and Stephanie ‘Biegs’ Biegel on the show.

Kristin had said on the show: ‘Instead of her just owning her side of it and being like, “I’m sorry! Oh my God, that was never my intention,” or whatever, she kept giving me push back and would get really defensive. And then she literally stopped responding to me.’

In addition, the star claimed that Kelly ‘never once’ said sorry over the escalation of the situation with the last interaction an olive branch from Kristin to her.

Kristin says she had written to Kelly: ‘I miss you and this has been absolutely killing me. I’m sorry, I know I’m tough when I’m hurt. I love you and we need to fix this.’

After Kelly never responded, Kristin had said it was ‘the final straw in their friendship.’
