Kyle Sandilands blasts 2Day FM’s new breakfast show

‘It’s an absolute disaster’: Kyle Sandilands blasts 2Day FM’s new breakfast show hosted by Erin Molan, Ed Kavalee and Dave Hughes

It was only a matter of time.

Less than a month after 2Day FM debuted its new breakfast show, The Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed and Erin, the program has been skewered by Kyle Sandilands – the most powerful and outspoken man in Sydney radio.

Kyle, 49, who worked at 2Day FM for years before jumping ship to KIIS FM with his co-anchor Jackie ‘O’ Henderson in 2014, said on Friday he didn’t even need to listen to the show to ‘know it’s going to be a failure’.

The verdict is in: Less than a month after 2Day FM debuted its new breakfast show, The Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed and Erin, the program has been skewered by Kyle Sandilands (pictured) – the most powerful and outspoken man in Sydney radio

He based his judgement on a car-crash interview that hosts Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes, Ed Kavalee and Erin Molan did with Channel Nine’s Today show earlier this week.

The signal delay between Nine’s Sydney headquarters and 2Day FM’s studio in Melbourne resulted in some awkward on-air moments.

To make matters worst, Hughesy was asked his favourite thing about being in Sydney – despite the fact he was broadcasting his show from Melbourne.

After watching the segment, Kyle said he didn’t even need to listen to an episode of The Morning Crew to know it was a disaster.

He said the trio ‘couldn’t communicate with each other’ and described the whole interview as a ‘mess’.

‘Instantly, without even hearing the show, I know it’s going to be a failure. Listen, I’m a radio expert,’ Kyle said, as Jackie desperately tried to shut down the conversation.

‘No, come on. You’re not doing this,’ she said sternly, to which her colleague responded: ‘[It’s] an absolute disaster…’

Kyle has made no secret of his contempt for 2Day FM in the years since he parted ways with the Southern Cross Austereo-owned station in 2014.

He can’t resist mocking each new attempt at a breakfast format, and has previously had feuds with 2Day FM presenters Rove McManus and Em Rusciano.

The Hit Network station has been unable to find a successful Sydney breakfast team since Kyle and Jackie O’s departure, and last year gave up entirely by filling the 6am to 9am time slot with a music playlist curated by Jamie Angel.
