TV reporter Leila McKinnon has shared a photo of her husband, David Gyngell, looking ‘super fit and healthy’ just weeks before he almost died of a heart attack.

The 47-year-old journalist posted an image to Instagram of the former Channel Nine boss smiling with their children, and explained there had been no warning signs of what was to come.

Leila urged her fans to remain on top of their heart health, saying that David, 54, was lucky to be alive after having a 99 per cent blockage in his coronary artery.

‘This was taken just six weeks before David’s heart attack, he is super fit, healthy and relaxed and it’s generally believed that no one has ever had a better wife,’she wrote in the caption.

‘But his right coronary artery was 99 per cent blocked – so please get yourself and your loved ones’ heart health checked.’

She concluded: ‘He is recovering really well. We were so lucky.’

David suffered a heart attack last week.  

The media executive was rushed to hospital by Leila, after she noticed him looking ‘a little grey’ upon returning to their Byron Bay home, following a boot camp session with tennis star Pat Rafter.

Friends told Sydney Morning Herald on Saturday, that Leila’s quick response had saved his life.

‘He came home from this super macho crazy boot camp with his mates looking a little grey and complaining of the classic heart attack symptoms, such as pressure on the chest and a tingly arm,’ Leila told Private Sydney.

‘I gave him the choice of an ambulance or hospital. He didn’t put up much resistance so I knew he was worried too,’ the 47-year-old added. 

It was reported that doctors at Gold Coast’s John Flynn Hospital inserted stents to improve blood flow, after discovering a 90 per cent blockage in two arteries.

David told The Courier Mail last week that he ‘could have died’. 

‘If I hadn’t been fit, I could have died,’ he said.

‘I was training like I do most days. Then I felt tired and a bit weird but still went to breakfast with the boys.’

The retired TV executive added that he’s feeling much better after being released from hospital. 

Leila married David, the son of the late legendary Channel Nine boss Bruce Gyngell, in 2004.

They share two children: son Edmund, seven, and daughter Gwendolen, five.
