Married At First Sight relationship expert Mel Schilling appears to have taken a subtle swipe at social media influencers who continue to post selfies amid the Black Lives Matter movement.
On Wednesday, the 48-year-old said she had been ‘pampered’ at her hair salon, but felt it was ‘tone deaf’ to share the results of her makeover on Instagram.
Instead, Mel uploaded a variation of the #BlackOutTuesday post, sharing a plain black square with ‘respect’ written in the bottom right corner.
#BlackOutTuesday is a collective action to protest racism and police brutality following the death of George Floyd in the U.S.

‘Today I was so lucky to return to the hair salon to be pampered by @amazinghairaustralia and @hairhouseaustralia,’ Mel wrote under her post.
‘But, given the current climate it doesn’t feel right to post hair pictures. In fact, it would be tone deaf.
‘So instead, I’m just posting RESPECT and standing in solidarity with my BIPOC [black, Indigenous and person of colour] friends.’

George Floyd, 46, died on May 25 after he was arrested by four Minneapolis police officers for allegedly using a fake $20 bill.
He was brought to the ground and white police officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck for eight minutes.
Floyd, who was unarmed and handcuffed, repeatedly said he couldn’t breathe and died, which was later found in a post-mortem to be due to asphyxia.
