‘I was embarrassed’: Married At First Sight star Bryce Ruthven’s mother Dana admits she was ashamed of her own son after watching him on TV
Bryce Ruthven became Australia’s public enemy No. 1 thanks to his ‘villain’ portrayal on this year’s season of Married At First Sight.
And the 32-year-old radio host’s mother, Dana, has now revealed she felt ‘ashamed’ watching her son’s problematic behaviour on the Nine reality show.
‘I was embarrassed to be honest,’ Dana said on What Happens After, the popular podcast Bryce runs with his TV ‘wife’ Melissa Rawson.

Dana explained: ‘I was embarrassed that he was my son because I kept thinking my friends, family and that, they all know Bryce.’
‘I kept thinking, surely people can’t believe that this is what he’s like,’ she added.
‘People that knew him kept saying to their friends and family, “You have no idea. This is not the Bryce we know.”‘

Dana said she was further humiliated after reading negative comments from viewers.
‘It was embarrassing because obviously, like, once it goes to air and you start to see comments online,’ she admitted.
‘I kept telling myself, as a mum, well, don’t read these things, but you can’t help it.’

Looking back at her son’s experience, Dana said she would have stopped Bryce from going on the show if she had known how he would be portrayed.
Bryce was widely criticised by MAFS viewers for appearing to gaslight and manipulate Melissa, but the pair insist they have a healthy relationship.
Despite their tumultuous journey on screen, the couple recently proved their critics wrong by celebrating their eight-month anniversary.
