Former MasterChef Australia star George Calombaris debuted a hip new look on Christmas Eve.

The TV chef, 42, who left the cooking series last year amid a spate of negative headlines, sported a decidedly youthful ensemble as he stepped out in Melbourne ahead of the festive season on Thursday.

Looking worlds away from his usual clean-cut image, George wore a baggy Star Wars T-shirt and a pair of light blue jeans, which featured an on-trend rip just above the knee.

He teamed his look with a pair of blue-and-white Nike trainers, and slipped a backwards cap on his head.

George completed his look by slinging on an oversized black hoodie and a pair of gold-rimmed sunglasses.

He held some of his belongings in a large tote bag, while peering down at his phone in his other hand.

Last year, George made headlines for all the wrong reasons after he was found to have underpaid his restaurant staff by nearly $8 million.

The former TV star was fined $200,000 for underplaying 515 staff between 2011 and 2017, and will have his business audited for the next three years.

He was also axed from MasterChef alongside veteran MasterChef co-judges Gary Mehigan and Matt Preston amid the controversy.

Reports claimed the trio chose to walk away from the program after 10 refused to give them a significant pay boost.

‘Despite months of negotiations, Ten has not been able to reach a commercial agreement that was satisfactory to Matt, Gary and George,’ Ten’s CEO Paul Anderson said in a statement in July 2019.

The trio were replaced with new judges for 2020, in the form of Andy Allen, Melissa Leong and Jock Zonfrillo.

The new panel have already enjoyed incredibly successful ratings – whereas Gary, Matt and Manu Feildel’s new show, Plate of Origin, raked in terrible figures throughout it’s first season.
