MasterChef dominates ratings with 1.44 million viewers as Reynold and Khang share family stories

MasterChef dominates the ratings as 1.44 million tune in to watch fan favourites Reynold Poernomo and Khang Ong break down while sharing their harrowing family backstories

MasterChef’s Memories Mystery Box challenge was a ratings hit for Channel 10.

Wednesday’s tearjerker episode drew in an audience of 1.44 million across Australia, according to data from OzTAM’s five city metro on Wednesday. 

The highly emotional challenge saw contestants draw on their family history for inspiration to create their most memorable dishes.

Fan favourites Reynold Poernomo and Khang Ong each broke down as they recalled their family’s stories about immigrating to Australia.

Judge Melissa Leong also won over fans on social media for being ‘personable and warm’ toward the contestants.

Unfortunately, for the rival networks the emotional and harrowing tales of the MasterChef contestants and their dishes was enough to win over Wednesday’s viewers.

Out performed: Channel Nine's Taronga: Who's Who In The Zoo, which is narrated by actress Naomi Watts, was also an emotional episode where zookeepers and vets said goodbye to one of their favourite giraffes Nyota. But the show only managed to scrape in 463,000 viewers

But the network, who has done well so far this year with Married At First Sight and Lego Masters, only managed to scrape in 463,000 viewers.

Channel Seven fared better with the weird and wacky auditions on Britain’s Got Talent.

Around 526,000 tuned in to watch celebrity hosts Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, David Walliams and series creator Simon Cowell judge the pool of entertainment.
