MasterChef star Brent Draper sensationally quit the show on Sunday night.

‘I needed to get off the show and get home and get some help. It all started when my mum got really sick before filming for MasterChef and I just brushed it off,’ he said.

‘Then I went straight into quarantining. I also had a few health issues over Christmas but nothing sinister. Then I went into quarantine for the second time after that and I had a rough time.’

Brent also said that his grandma passed away while he was filming the show and he started to experience ‘home sickness to the max for seven weeks’.

‘The physical symptoms started to happen from the stress I was causing myself and my mind just disconnected. I was thinking just the worst of the worst.’

Brent then made the decision to leave the show and see a psychologist. He said he is now ‘feeling a lot better’.

During Sunday night’s episode of MasterChef, the boilermaker broke down in tears during an elimination challenge and said he ‘can’t cook’ and ‘had nothing left’.

The shocking moment saw judge Jock Zonfrillo take Brent aside and talk to him about his emotional decision.

‘I just need to go home. It’s my mental health,’ Brent said, sitting across from Jock.

Brent spoke about the pressure and stress of the competition: ‘I just can’t get out of my head. It’s just affecting my cook. My sleep,’ he said. ‘I don’t want to but I think it’s the only thing – it’s the right thing,’ he added.

Jock himself started to choke back tears with him telling Brent he has truly shown his ability throughout the cooking challenges.
