Matthew McConaughey defends himself after Kate Hudson’s jab at their kissing scenes in Fool’s Gold

Matthew McConaughey responded to his former co-star Kate Hudson’s jab about their on-screen kiss in the 2008 mega-hit Fool’s Gold, which was ruined by snot.

After the 41-year-old actress opened about her best and worst on-screen kisses on Gwyneth’s Paltrow’s Goop podcast last month, the best-selling author blamed the hectic circumstances surrounding their disastrous smooch.

Agreeing they never got their ‘nice romantic kiss,’ the Oscar winning-star, 51, told Yahoo! Entertainment it was complicated attempting to make out in the salt water and other rough conditions.

‘It’s like, ‘OK, here’s the scene: You’ve just jumped from the helicopter. You’re in the middle of the ocean. You go under the water, so on action, go into the water and then come up out of the water like you’re gasping for air,’ he explained.

He continued: ‘You’re glad to be alive! Then you look at each other and you swim to each other and [go] into an embrace.’

As he reminisced on the tough scene, he recalled there being a ‘a lot of salt water and snot.’

Even after starring together in both Fool’s Gold and the 2003 rom-com How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, McConaughey said ‘many’ of his romantic scenes with the beauty  ‘have been awkward.’

‘We’re still like, hey, can we ever get a kiss where it’s just like the temperatures, right? The ocean’s not wiping us away? Nobody’s dropping stuff on us, above our head?’ the husband of model Camila Alves joked.

The Gentlemen actor’s trip down memory lane came after Hudson told Paltrow about ‘every time’ she kissed McConaughey ‘snot or wind’ would interfere.

'Every time I kissed McConaughey, I mean, it’s like there’s just something happening and there’s like snot, or wind, Hudson remarked; seen here together in Fool's Gold

‘Like when we were kissing, like, in the end of Fool’s Gold, we’re like in the ocean, we had the plane crash, he just had snot all over his face,’ Hudson revealed.

She followed this with a mildly disgusted noise, through laughter.

Gwyneth, for her part, wondered if kissing someone she’s worked with so much may have felt more like ‘brother energy,’ as that’s how it felt for her with fellow Marvel actor Robert Downey Jr.

‘With Robert, like, when I kissed him, I was like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me, this is literally like kissing my brother.’ Paltrow recalled.

Gwyneth, of course, acted with RDJ in no less than SEVEN MCU movies, including the Iron Man and Avengers trilogies.

The seventh was 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, which the Academy Award-winning actress famously forgot all about last year while on a cooking show for Iron Man actor-director Jon Favreau.

Kate, meanwhile, did follow up with one good on-screen kisser, but she made sure to mention that the scene in which they locked lips unfortunately ended up on the cutting room floor.

‘You know who was a good kisser, but you didn’t see it cuz they cut it out, was Billy’, the actress said, referring to Billy Crudup in Almost Famous from 2000. ‘Billy was good. That was good.’

‘He looks like he would be a good kisser,’ Gwyneth observed.
