The Friends star was left bedridden in a hospital for three months after having a surgery to repair a gastrointestinal perforation.

‘We were able to be with him a lot of the time through that, which was I think good for everybody,’ Morrison said. ‘It’s awful when people have a serious [illness] and have to have operations and worry about whether or not they’re going to make it through.’

Morrison, 73, has been married to Matthew’s mother, Suzanne, for 39 years and the couple have six children including Keith’s son, Michael, from a previous marriage.

Adding even more people into the familial home, Keith and Suzanne have four grandchildren.

‘It brings the whole family closer,’ he added. ‘We all get to be there to pull for him. He’s coming through it.’

Healthline describes the condition: ‘Gastrointestinal perforation (GP) occurs when a hole forms all the way through the stomach, large bowel, or small intestine. It can be due to a number of different diseases, including appendicitis and diverticulitis.

‘It can also be the result of trauma, such as a knife wound or gunshot wound. A perforation may also occur in the gallbladder. This can have symptoms that are similar to the symptoms of a gastrointestinal perforation.’

Page Six noted the condition can also be attributed to ‘drug and alcohol abuse,’ issues Matthew has been candid about in the past.

‘I couldn’t stop,’ Perry told People in 2013 about his addiction to alcohol and Vicodin. ‘Eventually things got so bad that I couldn’t hide it, and then everybody knew.’

‘I’ve had a lot of ups and downs in my life. I learned a lot from my failures,’ Perry told The Hollywood Reporter in 2015. ‘But the best thing about me is that if an alcoholic comes up to me and says, “Will you help me stop drinking?” I will say, “Yes, I know how to do that.”‘
