McFly to release their first album in 10 YEARS as they sign new record deal… after postponing their reunion tour amid COVID-19

McFly have confirmed they will be releasing new music for the first time in a decade.

The beloved boyband confirmed the exciting news fans had been waiting for after signing a new record deal, and are set to release their album’s first single later this month.

McFly first confirmed they would be reuniting back in September with an anniversary tour, which has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Tom Fletcher confirmed the band’s exciting news by writing: ‘We have some big @mcflymusic news! We have signed a new record deal with @BMGuk and new music is on the way.’

The band – which also consists of Danny Jones, Harry Judd and Dougie Fletcher – are expected to release their new music later this year.

Tom told BBC that their reunion was almost derailed due to tensions within the group, and even considered group therapy to try and resolve their differences.

He said: ‘There was a strong possibility McFly would never happen again. We genuinely didn’t know how to get back on track..

Harry added: ‘We tried to talk it out a couple of times over those years and it just was very unproductive. So, yeah, there were moments where we talked about, ”Do we need to get in a room with a therapist and document this?”

After going on hiatus the band all went onto have success in different areas, with Tom becoming a successful children’s author, Dougie winning I’m A Celebrity in 2011, Danny wrote and produced records, and Harry won Strictly Come Dancing. 

They also formed the supergroup McBusted in 2013, and released an album before embarking on a nationwide tour.

Eventually it was McFly’s manager who finally pushed them to reunite by booking them to perform a concert at the O2 Arena.

The group also confirmed they’d nearly finished recording their album when the new record deal was signed, and their first single is expected to be released later this month.

McFly first confirmed they would be reuniting in September, and immediately announced a nationwide tour which sold out in minutes.

Back in late March they announced the 11-day tour had been postponed to October and November due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a message posted to Twitter, the band wrote: ‘Following the latest government advice we are very sad to announce that we are rescheduling our upcoming April/May UK 2020 tour. 

‘The safety and health of our fans is our utmost priority. Look after each other & see you very soon. Love Tom, Danny, Harry & Dougie (sic)’

McFly have long been known as one of the Noughties most iconic boybands, after releasing their first single 5 Colours in Her Hair in 2004.

They went onto have nine number one singles and two chart-topping albums before parting ways in 2010.
