Meryl Streep reveals former POTUS Barack Obama made a mistake about her in his memoir

Three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep revealed Monday night that former POTUS Barack Obama made a mistake while recounting a story about her in his fourth book A Promised Land.

The 59-year-old retired politician wrote how the 71-year-old acting legend recited Wang Wei’s poem Luchai in Mandarin accompanied by cellist Yo-Yo Ma at the US-China Forum in Beijing back in 2011.

‘I do remember that moment, but he got the story a little bit wrong. He’s a very good writer but his memory is [bad],’ Meryl (born Mary Louise) said on The Late Show.

Streep ‘chickened out’ over reciting the famous fourth-century poem ‘everyone knows’ without text after discovering the Chinese cultural prime minister was in the audience.

‘In Chinese the same word can be translated as a completely different thing,’ the Yale grad explained of the ‘terrifying’ moment.

‘I said it in English first. I meant to start up in Mandarin and I just looked up at [Yo Yo Ma] and smiled. And he went cross-eyed and kind of finished up and then we both bowed. Because of his artistry, it was a wonderful moment. People loved it.’

Meryl then indulged host Stephen Colbert by reading both versions of Luchai during her first time appearing on his CBS talk show.
