Natalie Barr says she DIDN’T want Samantha Armytage’s job on Sunrise – before taking over as host on the show

Natalie Barr took over as the host of Sunrise after Samantha Armytage left the role earlier this year.

But the 53-year-old insists she wasn’t angling for the job – and in fact, would have been happy to stay in her former co-star’s shadow.

‘Every interview I’ve ever done, people have said, “What’s next?” And I’ve never been able to give a good answer because I loved my job, but people thought I should want something else. I actually didn’t,’ she told Stellar this week.

‘If Sam had wanted to stay the host of Sunrise for the next 15 years, that would have been fine with me, hand on heart,’ she added.

Natalie went on to say that she was happy with balancing her career and family life, and didn’t have ambitions to change.

‘I started to think maybe there was something wrong with me that [I was not] striving for more,’ she told the magazine.

‘I was really happy and it was a fantastic job while I was bringing up two kids with my husband.’

Natalie’s move to the co-host role came after Sam stepped down from Sunrise after eight years on the program.

She was officially confirmed as Samantha’s permanent replacement on Channel Seven’s Sunrise in March.

The appointment was largely an uncontroversial move following the departure of Sam, who has moved on to hosting her own podcast, ‎Something To Talk About.

Since her exit from the breakfast show, the 44-year-old has been taking things at a slower pace at her husband Richard Lavender’s Southern Highlands estate.

The breakfast show continues to dominate in the ratings with the move of Nat as the co-host seen as safe for the network.
