Olly Murs reveals he hasn’t watched Caroline Flack documentary because ‘it’s difficult’ to process

Olly Murs has revealed he still hasn’t watched the recent Channel 4 documentary on Caroline Flack’s tragic passing as it’s ‘so difficult’ to process.

The singer, 36, who appeared on Wednesday night’s show about the late TV star’s life, said he will watch the programme next week when he is alone.

Olly shared a close friendship with Caroline over the years and confessed that it’s still difficult to realise that ‘she’s not here anymore’.

Caroline was tragically found dead on February 15, 2020, at 40, the day after hearing the Crown Prosecution Service would go ahead with a trial for allegedly attacking her model and former tennis player boyfriend Lewis Burton in December 2019.

Following the screening of the emotional show, Olly explained that he is waiting to watch, as he told The Mirror: ‘I haven’t actually watched it yet purely on the basis that I’m in the Voice this week and I want to just focus on that.

‘I will watch it all next week on my own and I’ll process it all because it is so difficult to talk about it and it’s so difficult to even think that I’m talking about someone that I love a lot and she’s not here anymore.’

In a clip from Channel 4 documentary Caroline Flack: Her Life and Death, Olly broke down in tears as he remembered the good times he shared with his close friend and former co-presenter.

He said his ‘heart breaks’ every time he thinks of Caroline, and he struggles to imagine the internal suffering she endured in the moments that led up to her suicide.

Olly said: ‘I just know that my heart breaks every time I think of Caz and think of what she would’ve had to have gone through to take her own life and that’s going to hurt for a long time because we got on so well – we were great together.’

Later in the documentary, Olly spoke about the public’s negative reaction to him and Caroline presenting The X Factor in 2015 – and how they first knew they were losing their jobs when it became a news story.

Olly said: ‘I remember the final of The X Factor there was a big story and basically we were getting sacked after the show…

‘It was an awful experience knowing that everyone hated us on the show. That X Factor experience for both of us was hard. But again Caroline, God, she got it so much more than me. I don’t know what it was.’

The film showed some examples of the hateful tweets posted about Caroline, including one that said: ‘There is nobody on earth I hate more than Caroline Flack.’

Olly said: ‘The abuse that she was getting, it was awful, awful. Those comments did affect her, those comments did hurt.’

The documentary which looked into the life and tragic death of Caroline left viewers in tears as it aired on Wednesday night.

The late Love Island host’s mother and twin sister discuss her ‘fascination’ with suicide and mental health battles, with her relatives admitting they begged her to quit showbiz to give herself a chance of ‘an easy life’.

The harrowing one-part show also featured appearances from some of Caroline’s closest friends, including Polly Hill, who was Caroline’s agent between 2003 and 2015, and Dermot O’Leary, 47, and his wife Dee, 42.
