Bloom explained that he had agreed to foster Buddy but the ‘one year old something & something mix’ had won his heart.

He also shared a photo of the pup from before he’d found his new home with the Lord of the Rings star in which the little dogs appeared shaggier and less groomed.

‘if you’ve never fostered or are considering, I’d highly recommend it,’ he wrote.

‘it leaves two beings better off & remember what they say never judge a book by its cover.’

Mighty, a teacup poodle, went missing from the Montecito home Bloom shared with fiancee Katy Perry, who at the time was heavily pregnant with the couple’s first child.

The British star brought in sniffer dogs and offered a $5,000 reward and was seen searching for his pet day after day until Mighty’s collar was found.

‘I have wept more this week than I thought possible, which has been very cathartic and healing… I left no stone unturned, crawled thru all the man holes, under the roads, searched every back yard and creek bed…’ he said of his ordeal at the time.

‘I feel so grateful to have learned from my little Mighty man that love is eternal and the true meaning of devotion…’ he shared.

‘I feel sure he was looking down on me whistling in every back yard and knowing that I was doing all I possibly could to respect our bond. He was more than a companion. It was a soul connection for sure. I’m sorry. I love you…’

He then got Mighty’s name tattooed over his heart as a lasting tribute to the sweet pup.
