Paris bomb alert: Police deployed as Arc de Triomphe evacuated

Arc de Triomphe is evacuated following bomb alert: Security perimeter set up around Paris landmark and subway lines closed

  • French police were deployed to the Arc de Triomphe at around 3pm today 
  • The area around the famous landmark in central Paris has been evacuated 
  • The Charles-de-Gaulle Etoile metro station nearby has also been closed
  • There have been several false bomb alerts, most recently in the Lyon railway station last week and at the Eifell Tower a month ago

The Arc de Triomphe in central Paris has been evacuated following a bomb threat. 

According to local media, police were deployed to the western end of the Champs-Élysées, where the famous monument stands, at 3pm today. 

The area around the landmark, including part of the Champs-Élysées, has been evacuated.

The entirety of the roundabout has been cordoned off for the police operation. 

Footage uploaded to social media shows traffic being diverted around the juncture with a spacious cordon given. 

The Charles-de-Gaulle Etoile metro station has also been closed in response to the threat.  

France is on high alert following the beheading of a teacher earlier this month by an 18-year old Muslim man angry about the use of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in a civics lesson.

There have been several false bomb alerts, most recently in the Lyon railway station last week and at the Eiffel Tower a month ago.
