Paris Jackson gets her heart ripped out in haunting new music video for debut single Let Down

Paris Jackson is following in her famous father Michael Jackson’s footsteps with the release of her heartbreaking debut song Let Down.   

On Friday, the 22-year-old released the music video for the song that featured a Phantom of the Opera meets Haunted Mansion visual performance. 

The haunting video for the alternative-folk tune, shows Paris getting her heart ripped  out as she sings about the pain of a breakup with lyrics like, ‘You were my all, And now, I fall.’

 In the video, Paris is dressed in victorian style garb as she appears against a spooky mansion backdrop. 

She starts the video crying a single tear of blood before the video theatrically mimics the stages of a relationship and ultimately its end. 

The song is marked by painful lyrics like, ‘Break me, flush me down the drain,’ and  ‘You were all I had…how did it get this bad.’

Paris can be seen dancing with a man in the video, before she gets swept away by figures in masks who restrain her as she cries. 

 Reminiscing on the happier times, she shares a kiss with the guy before she rips a flower into pieces. 

The brief moment of sweetness is short-lived as she is hurled into a backbend before he rips her heart out – a physical representation of her feelings. 

The ending shot shows her laying on the floor bloody with her heart next to her. 

Speaking to People about the release of her tune, Jackson said: ‘I feel so many emotions. I’m excited. I’m nervous…mostly grateful and happy. The freedom to create [and] not be told what to sing and how to sing it [or] what to write is awesome. It’s a gift. It’s a blessing.’  

She continued to share that writing her album gave her ‘so much healing,’ as she did it in part to help her process the emotions of a painful breakup. 

Though it is not made clear who the song is about, Paris most recently ended a two year relationship with boyfriend Gabriel Glenn, 23, over the summer 

Appearing on a Facebook Watch series with her then boyfriend over the summer Jackson talked about her bisexuality before saying that she ‘never thought [she’d] end up with a dude,’ as she has dated more women than men.

She continued, ‘The public only knows about three long term relationships I’ve been with and they’ve been with men.’ 

Paris and Gabriel ended their relationship in August after two years. The duo performed together under the name The Soundflowers and released in EP in June. 

In the past, Paris has been linked to Cara Delevingne though the duo never confirmed their relationship, despite being spotted kissing in photos. 

Before the release of the video, Paris did a live rendition and a Q+A, where she got candid about her life after saying she felt ‘awkward’ on camera. 

She shared a bit about herself – from her favorite music video, to her favorite tattoo – before saying that musically, she was going for an alternative-folk vibe for her album. 

 Jackson teased plans to go on tour when the world opens up, saying she’d love to perform overseas but it was ultimately down to her label.  

 Speaking about the pain of losing her King of Pop dad when she was just 11-years-old Jackson said: 

‘Whether it was him passing or all the shit that has happened to me in my life, If I don’t talk about it or if I don’t put it in the music, it’s going to completely ruin my life and it’s going to own me.’ 

The artist, who has been open about her mental health struggles and battle with suicide, is dropping her heartfelt debut album Wilted on November 13th.
