A personality quiz which determines whether you’re a rebel or a conformist will challenge you to start breaking the rules.

London-based award-winning entrepreneur and author Jackie Fast says in her book Rule Breaker: Rebellious Leadership for the Future of Work, that those who take more risks are more likely to get that promotion, achieve their goals and be happy.

The former The Apprentice candidate has shared her seven-question test designed to analyse your character traits and reveal how likely you are to stick to the rules as well as advice on becoming more rebellious.

She asks: ‘When 9-to-5 no longer exists, how do you climb up the ladder? How do you live a fulfilled life? The simple answer is being more rebellious. Play by your own set of rules and see how quickly new opportunities arise.

‘A breed of rule breakers and rebels have discovered this secret and are following their passion, proving that paving your own path is the only way to get ahead in times of radical change.

‘They take the necessary leap of faith and create new opportunities rather than wait for someone else to provide them. They don’t ask questions, instead they move forward – always. This type of rebelliousness is now a requirement to getting ahead.’

Jackie admits it ‘takes guts’ to break the rules – so, are you a rebel or a conformist? Take the quiz below to find out…

How to be more rebellious

Start by breaking a rule: Not just any rule, a stupid rule that doesn’t serve you or doesn’t make sense. Whether that means you no longer have to be the first one up in the morning (every morning) or choosing to leave the house without makeup on. Take one small rule and break it. When you see how good it feels, you’ll start rethinking what other rules you can break.

Question habits and rules: Just because it’s the way it’s always been does not mean it has to be that way forever. The world is evolving and so must you. Don’t just do things for the sake of it – really start questioning whether you can do things differently, ultimately better.

Speak up: If you don’t agree, then say so. We all have a fear of confrontation, which is why we often hold our tongue, but the truth can be liberating – and often you aren’t the only one who thinks so. By speaking up, you will start aligning yourself to others who feel and think the same. Who knows, you might even start a movement!

THE ANSWERS

Mostly As – You’re a rebel

A rebel is someone who doesn’t follow the status quo. They are not complacent and spend most of their time working towards their goals.

They don’t take ‘no’ for an answer and rarely complain when life doesn’t go their way. They often struggle with the ‘old way’ of doing things and their outspoken nature can sometimes be detrimental if not in the right setting.

But thinking of rebelliousness as a negative is no longer. The tides are changing and the future now favours the bold. So go on, rouse your inner rebel and start making things happen.

Anything Else – You’re a conformist

A conformist is someone who doesn’t like to rock the boat. They shy away from speaking their mind, especially if it is within the minority opinion.

They are often known as the ‘people pleaser’ in their group of friends. While this can be a great way to avoid confrontation, the challenge is that you never really get what you truly want, not really.

You are often settling for other people’s agendas which don’t reflect your own. Over time you lose faith in your own ability and your own voice. But remember, your opinion and perspective matters – the more you speak up, the more likely you will begin to align with people who share the same values.

By aligning closer with your network, you can start creating real change – in your family, in your work, in your life, and in the world.
