Phillip Schofield weighs in on new COVID restrictions

‘I’m at breaking point’: Phillip Schofield emotionally weighs in on new COVID restrictions before being accused of flouting social distancing with Holly Willoughby live on-air

Phillip Schofield has weighed in on the new COVID restrictions and admitted he is ‘at breaking point’ as the latest tier system was announced.

During Thursday’s episode of This Morning, the TV host, 58, was speaking alongside Holly Willoughby, about the latest developments, during which he uttered: ‘Everyone’s at breaking point. I know I am, actually, as a matter of fact.’

After speaking about the restrictions, the presenting duo became subject to speculation as camera trickery made it seem as though they were holding hands and flouting guidelines – something Phillip poked fun at Instagram.

Phillip and Holly have worked through lockdown with careful measures in place to ensure they are abiding by social distancing laws.

Boris Johnson imposed brutal lockdowns on nearly 99 per cent of England as he unveiled the new Tiers – with Tories raging at ‘authoritarianism’ and threatening.

Although London and Liverpool were spared the harshest Tier 3 in small glimmers of light, just 700,000 people – one per cent of the population – will be subject to the loosest grade of restrictions.

Meanwhile, around 55million residents will be in the toughest two levels after the blanket national lockdown ends on December 2, according to the breakdown released today.

England will be banned from mixing indoors with other households, apart from five days over Christmas. Pubs in Tier 2 will only be able to serve alcohol with ‘substantial’ meals – something Phillip spoke on.

During a phone in on Thursday, they weighed in on the chance of lightened rules at Christmas, where families are set to be permitted to mix.

Phillip said: ‘Everyone’s at breaking point. I know I am, actually, as a matter of fact.

‘I am quite happy to speak for a lot of people and say I’ve had enough. I will follow the rules, but I’ve had enough. As far as everyone’s mental health is concerned, taking a little slice of Christmas is going to be good for everyone.’

He then highlighted the risks of lightening laws and the chance of a spike after Christmas if families are allowed to mix.

‘Obviously we hope everyone stays safe this Christmas, but inevitably up and down the country, there will be those people who inadvertently come into contact with someone with Covid. Essentially, is it worth dying for five days at Christmas?’
