A popular Russian TV talk show host was killed in a light plane crash near Moscow on Saturday.

Alexander Koltovoy, 41, was piloting his Cessna aircraft when it appeared to catch fire while trying to make an emergency landing.

His wife – not named – was also killed in the crash, said reports.

Videos showed smoke pouring from the single engine aircraft as it descended over a highway near Tomilino, in Moscow Region.

Eyewitnesses saw the crashed wreckage in a field engulfed in flames.

Another deeply distressing video released by Mash online media at the crash scene showed the severely charred remains of a man.

Koltovoy hosted the ‘DNK’ (DNA) and ‘Zvezdi Soshlis’ (Stars Aligned) talk shows on NTV channel.

The press service of the Emergencies Ministry confirmed the death of two people as a result of the air crash.

The private aircraft performed an emergency landing near Novoryazansky highway close to Tomilino village.

Elena Markovskaya, of Moscow Transport Directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee, confirmed the single-engine plane crash.

NTV confirmed Koltovoy’s death in the star’s death.

‘Unfortunately, the information that Alexander Koltovoy and his wife were on board the crashed plane in the Moscow region was confirmed,’ said the channel.

Koltovy’s co-host Lera Kudryavtseva said: ‘He loved flying very much.

‘He flew almost every weekend.’

Fellow presenter Yulia Sivertsova told Podyem telegram channel: ‘We’re shocked.

‘I don’t know anything, (but) everyone has already confirmed it.’

Koltovoy was famous for a talk show where participants resolve family dramas with a genetic test.

Law enforcement officials told Sputnik news that the host had a private pilot’s license.
