Breakfast radio star Bianca Dye says most co-hosts aren’t actually friends in real life and are just thrown together by network executives for ratings

Popular breakfast radio host Bianca Dye has claimed that most co-hosts in the industry aren’t actually friends in real life.

Speaking to the So, I Quit My Day Job podcast, the 47-year-old said that morning show lineups are almost always thrown together by radio executives and then expected to find chemistry straight away.

She explained that networks often put her in existing shows because her personality is easy to fit in with people.

‘So I’ve always been the person that they bring in to kind of, not fix things, necessarily, but I’m so malleable, and because I’m bloody good at what I do – and I can say that now, it’s taken me a long time,’ she said.

‘It’s a bizarre industry in that sense. You just get thrown with people and get told “Go make the magic happen, darl, and I’ll see you for a meeting at 9am where I’ll tell you how you fucked it up… Happy ratings day”.’

Bianca is currently the co-host of Hit 90.9 Breakfast on the Gold Coast.

‘It’s not easy. It’s so public and your ego gets bruised,’ she admitted in an interview last year.

‘Although I was kind of devastated by the decision, I didn’t see it coming, there were no hard feelings for me really because this is showbiz.’

She said while the company had initially hoped to keep her on in some capacity, it never eventuated, and she spent six months in limbo off the air.

Bianca confessed it had been hard not to take the decision personally, reminding herself it all came down to business.

‘Once you agree to be part of this world you have to accept this is a business and they make business decisions, you can’t take it personally,’ she added.

‘At first it felt personal but after you take time to reflect you see they did what they had to do.’
