Reality show host Osher Günsberg reveals the one condition that needs to be met before he would host Australian Idol again

Osher Günsberg says that he would return to host a new season of Australian idol on one condition – that presenter and hosting bud James Mathieson also returned.

Osher, 47, made his feelings known in an Instagram Q&A on Tuesday night, where he was asked by a follower if he would return to the hit show.

‘Yeah, absolutely, you kidding me?’ he remarked. ‘It’s one of the best jobs I’ve had in my life. It was amazing.’

He then added that he would only return if James returned as well.

‘I’d only do it if Jimmy got to be there too,’ he said.

Osher and James hosted the renowned Network Ten show together for the first six seasons – beginning in 2003.

James then departed the show, leaving Osher to co-host with singer Ricki-Lee Coulter for the seventh and final season.

The show was then subsequently cancelled by Channel Ten in 2010 due to poor ratings.

However, the Seven Network announced in October 2020 that they will be reviving the series and aiming for a 2022 release.

No news has been released about who will host the new series.

On Wednesday Seven denied a recent rumour that the show had been axed, with the reboot season still listed on their 2022 prime time line-up.
