RHOSLC star Mary Cosby admits she didn’t want to marry her grandfather but found peace after prayer

Their storylines have shocked Bravo viewers merely five episodes into the latest and greatest franchise.

And Mary Cosby admitted she didn’t want to marry her step-grandfather during a heart-to-heart with co-star Heather Gay.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star found solace with her friend after a feud boiled over with former pal Jen Shah.

Heather and Mary recalled earlier events where Jen lashed out at Mary during a MET Gala themed brunch at the Italian restaurant Valter’s Osteria in the heart of downtown Salt Lake. 

‘So he’s not your blood grandfather?’ Heather asked.

‘No, that’s incest,’ Mary said of her husband of more than 20 years. ‘He is not my blood at all.’

 ‘I did marry him,’ she said. ‘I didn’t want to, Heather. I didn’t want to. That’s weird to me. But [my grandmother] really did want me to, so I obeyed her. I trusted every word.’

Mary’s late evangelist grandmother, Rosemary Redmon Cosby, set up the arranged marriage to ensure her husband (Mary’s step-grandfather) was taken care of once she died.

Another part of the arranged marriage was business related with Mary assuming the ownership of Rosemary’s assets, including the family churches, restaurants and more.  

‘It took us two years to actually marry,’ she said. ‘I had to be certain. I started to pray myself, I started to seek high help myself. When I did that, I felt peace with it, so I married him. I chose what the man upstairs told me to do.’

Attempting to pivot back to the situation with Shah, Heather asked what Mary’s next move is to salvage their relationship. 

 ‘I’m done,’ she said. ‘There’s nothing you could do that would change my mind. She’s burned the bridge.’

During a catch up on Watch What Happens Live, Lisa Barlow and Meredith Marks agreed that Mary’s marriage is completely her business.

‘Mary’s marriage is unconventional and if it works for them, great,’ Barlow said.  

‘When you understand the story behind it and that it’s, in essence, an arranged marriage, which is very common all around the world, just not in the United States, you just say “Whatever works.” If you’re happy, you’re happy,’ Marks added.

‘I want Mary to be happy at the end of it. That’s all I really care about,’ Marks said. ‘You hear about it for a second and then great, you move on.’ 

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City debuted in November and airs Wednesday nights on the Bravo network.
