Rick Astley reveals his prized guitars from the 1980s were STOLEN during a burglary at his home

Rick Astley has revealed burglars stole his prized guitars from the 1980s during a break-in at his and wife Lene’s Surrey home.

The musician, 55, explained that the instruments ‘weren’t super valuable but were valuable to me,’ adding that the experience taught him to ‘detach himself’ from material possessions.

Speaking on former Labour Party deputy leader Tom Watson’s Persons Of Interest podcast, the star said: ‘We had a break-in at the last house. Some of the guitars I’d had from back in the 80s and stuff were stolen.

‘They had a lot of memories. They’d been around the world.’

Rick continued: ‘So, I’ve kind of detached myself from the prize possession thing of owning guitars any more.’

He added: ‘Because you don’t know whether you’re going to own them forever anyway.’

Singer Rick is thought to have a net worth of around £12 million after making savvy investments since rising to fame in the 1980s.

The hitmaker topped the charts with his single Never Gonna Give You Up in 1988, but took a break from music in the 1990s at the height of his stardom to focus on family life.

Rick then made a cultural comeback in 2007, becoming an Internet phenomenon when the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up became integral to the meme known as ‘rickrolling’.

The trend saw users tricked into watching the video for his single with fake links.

Since then Rick has continued to record new music, and his last album The Best of Me came out in 2019.

Speaking about his return to the limelight, Rick told The Telegraph last year: ‘Everything has changed a little bit here because of 50 going to No. 1.’

He added: ‘When I go into a coffee shop here and people recognise me, the bizarre thing is that’s been really, really nice.’

Rick went on to admit that at 53 years of age, he was better equipped at dealing with the trials and tribulation that fame brings.

‘Going back to when I was a kid and all that [fame] happened, I did feel under pressure sometimes,’ he said.

Rick was only 19 years old when the song came out in 1987.
