Rosamund Pike reveals she accidentally took her kids on a booze cruise

Rosamund Pike once accidentally took her children on a booze cruise in Prague, where they were surrounded by the ‘drunkest human beings’ she has ever seen.

The actress, 42, joked that her two young sons, Solo, eight, and Atom, six, ‘haven’t stopped acting drunk’ since the trip, which they found a ‘fascinating’ experience.

The Gone Girl star explained how she thought it would be a ‘wholesome and traditional Czech activity’ to immerse her children in culture after moving to the city 18 months ago while she filmed her latest project The Wheel of Time.

Speaking during an interview on The Jimmy Kimmel Show on Thursday night, she said: ‘My kids were fascinated… I promise you, I’ve never seen drunker human beings than I saw on this boat… Men who stood up and immediately fell flat.

Rosamund explained: ‘I took them on what I have heard is a very wholesome and traditional Czech activity to do with kids, which is to go river rafting.

There’s a lovely town called Cesky Krumlov quite near Prague… it’s this beautiful stretch of river and there are rapids and weirs.

‘I took my two boys out on this inflatable raft and it was idyllic… I thought it would be water rats and king fishers and snakes.

‘But what I underestimated was the fact that it’s also a very popular Czech pastime for stag dos and hen nights… bachelorette, bachelor party, booze cruise, whatever label you want put on it.’

She told the chat show host: ‘They loved it, Jimmy, because we were travelling along and we came across… a group of women in bikinis with a very large inflatable man with a huge erection trailing behind them in the boat.

‘My kids were fascinated… I promise you, I’ve never seen drunker human beings than I saw on this boat… Men who stood up and immediately fell flat.

‘Then one who stumbled over the edge got completely drenched in mud and then clambered back into the boat splattering all the girls with mud.

‘My kids have never stopped acting drunk ever since… they just thought this is clearly what adults do. This is our future, we better start.’

Rosamund moved to the Czech Republic in September 2019 with her partner of 10 years, mathematician and a businessman Robie Uniacke, 60, and their two sons.

The Gone Girl star said on Friday’s forthcoming episode of the Graham Norton Show that the family decided to relocate for the duration of filming to avoid a ‘constant back and forth’ while she shot The Wheel of Time.

She admitted that the UK feels further away than ever after a spontaneous move to Prague post-Brexit.

Speaking on Friday’s upcoming episode of the Graham Norton show, the actress said: ‘I’m working here so we decided instead of the constant back and forth we would all up sticks and move here.

‘It [the UK] seems further away now Brexit has happened. We feel like we are in a very different country and it feels very far away suddenly.’

Rosamund is currently filming as Moiraine the sorceress in The Wheel of Time, an adaptation of Robert Jordan’s cult novel series of the same name, hence the impulsive move abroad.

But, rather than learning Czech during her European stint, Rosamund said her sons have been teaching her Mandarin.

She revealed: ‘My kids speak Mandarin, so they have been home-schooling me.

‘I should really be learning Czech and I am aware of the irony of living in the Czech Republic and learning Mandarin!’

The award-winning actress plays the villainous Marla Grayson, who makes her living serving as a court-appointed legal guardian for the vulnerable elderly.

She told Graham Norton: ‘I think it lets the audience off the hook – because at no point does my character asks you to care about her and she gives you completely free rein to dislike her.

‘She doesn’t give a damn. She is dastardly but fun to watch. All the characters in this film are deliciously unsavoury.’
