Ruby Tuesday Matthew slams new Netflix series Byron Baes

Controversial Byron Bay influencer Ruby Tuesday Matthews has slammed Netflix’s upcoming reality series, Byron Baes.

On Thursday, the streaming giant announced the upcoming release an eight-episode series about the glamorous lives of Byron Bay’s biggest Instagram stars.

And while Ruby, 26, could have been a fascinating addition to the cast, the Instagram star has made it clear she’s won’t be making an appearance.

‘Goodbye Byron Bay, you are officially cooked’: Ruby Tuesday Matthews, 26, (pictured) has slammed the new Netflix series Byron Baes, while claiming she turned down an offer to appear on the show

Posting to Instagram Stories, the mother-of-two uploaded a promotional poster for Byron Baes alongside the caption: ‘For everyone asking if I’ll be on this show. I declined the offer.’

‘Goodbye Byron, you are officially cooked. How embarrassing,’ she added.

Ruby also used the hashtag ‘#ShireRepeat?’, a reference to Channel 10’s disastrous 2012 reality show about the glamorous residents of Sydney’s Sutherland Shire.

While Ruby won’t make an appearance on Byron Baes, The Sydney Morning Herald has claimed that fellow influencer Elyse Knowles is ‘hotly tipped’ for a starring role.

Byron Baes will follow the influencers in their everyday lives, but won’t criticise influencer culture.

Netflix’s director of content for Australia and New Zealand, Que Minh Luu, said giving the show the green light was a ‘no brainer’.

‘You’ve got this cabal, or live feed as we’ve been calling it, of Instagrammers, who all live up in Byron, and there are a lot of them,’ said Ms Luu.

‘I’m not going to judge anyone for having a product to sell. Musicians have music to sell. I have ideas to sell,’ Ms Luu added.

A press release for the program describes Byron Baes as a ‘docu-soap series’.

‘This is our love letter to Byron Bay,’ it states.

‘It’s not just Chris [Hemsworth] and Zac [Efron]’s backyard; it’s the playground of more celebrity-adjacent influencers than you can poke a selfie-stick at.’

There will be ‘fights, flings and heartbreak’ on offer, too.
