Sam Thompson breaks his silence after taking back Zara McDermott and says ‘we all make mistakes’

Sam Thompson has spoken out for the first time since taking back his cheating ex Zara McDermott and said ‘we all make mistakes.’

The Made In Chelsea star, 28, told MailOnline he ‘believes in forgiveness’ and the couple’s emotional breakup being filmed for the E4 series has ‘humanised’ him.

Speaking exclusively, Sam confessed to sympathising with Zara after learning from his own past and being ‘the person who’s made a mistake and come back stronger.’

‘Forgiveness allows you to heal’: Sam Thompson has spoken out for the first time since taking back his cheating ex Zara McDermott and said ‘we all make mistakes’

He said: ‘I believe in forgiveness. I understand the context – and I think in any walk of life you can’t move forward unless you forgive.

‘Forgiveness allows you to heal. You can only heal when you forgive the other person and get over that.

‘I would definitely say no matter what you should always try to forgive and you’ll feel better in yourself – it’s f***ing easier said than done but you’ve got to strive for that.

‘The people I care about caring about me will know we’re all human. We are all human and you can’t grow and evolve and be a better person without making mistakes along the way. For that to be shown on TV, it almost humanises you and makes you more relatable.’

Zara begged Sam for a second chance after they split up when she confessed to being unfaithful at the start of their relationship.

After sending him love letters and gifts, including a promise ring, Sam finally gave into his feelings for Zara – though admitted he was ’embarrassed’ to take her back.

Sam joined Made In Chelsea when he was 20-years-old, following in the footsteps of his older sister, Louise, 30, who he now lives next door to in west London.

During his years on the show, Sam has been caught out for cheating, including when he kissed another girl while in a relationship with ex-girlfriend Tiffany Watson, 27.

Reflecting on his past, Sam said: ‘I have had a lot of f*** ups in my own life. Being on TV, it accelerates your personal growth because of how many people do watch and everything you do gets so many opinions and you get so much feedback. It does shape you as a person.

‘I hate people who are on TV and literally have the best publicist in the world and people believe they’re angels. Oh come on! We all have bad moments, we all have f*** ups. We all make mistakes.

‘I am actually the person who’s made a mistake and come back stronger and have gone through everything. I can’t stand people that think they’re perfect because they’re not – they’re not showing their true self.’

Sam trusted Made In Chelsea producers to accurately portray the most intimate details of his split from Zara, who has regularly sobbed in front of the cameras.

While filming personal scenes has been tough for the couple, Sam said he can ‘handle’ the pressure – and even joked the dramatic storyline has done wonders for the show’s viewing figures.

He said: ‘I have signed up to it. You have to take the good with the bad. A lot of people know my life to such an extent that they want to tune in at 9pm on a Monday.

‘I have massive respect for the producers they really listen to you. The producers and execs I am working with have shown my story correctly, so I don’t care.

‘I can handle people having an opinion on my stuff as long as they’re enjoying themselves. I can handle it. I do find it cool that people are invested in my life. From what I’ve heard the viewing figures are great!’

Sam has been supported throughout his breakup by fellow Celebs Go Dating star, Pete Wicks, 32, who has quickly become his go to in times of need.

He said: ‘Pete wouldn’t say this about me but I would say he’s my best friend.

‘I go to him with any problem I have, all the things that went wrong in my personal life, he was the first person I told. I get his advice on everything – he’s my rock.

‘My dream is to stay in this industry and eventually start hosting my own show with Pete. We’re such an eclectic duo that every single second I spend with him is so interesting and so fun. I would love to do that in front of an audience.’

Another one of Sam’s close pals is currently competing on Strictly Come Dancing.

Jamie Laing has defied the odds and made it to musicals week on the show despite finding himself in the bottom two at the start of the competition.

Sam said: ‘He is a perfect fit for the show because you have HRVY who is very good at dancing. I don’t think Jamie is the best dancer but I think at a time like this he aspires happiness and that is a lot more valuable than being a professional dancer.

‘Jamie deserves every single accolade that he will receive in life. I know that boy more than anyone else – probably even more than Spencer and I would say that I do not know a harder worker in the years I have known him. He is the personification of work ethic.’

Sam has kept busy throughout lockdown and amid his breakup by collaborating with rum brand, Captain Morgan.

The reality star has stepped in to launch the Captain Morgan Better Than Gold Card, which will give its owners money off takeaways, rounds of drink to enjoy at home and even the chance to win a drink with Sam himself.

Sam said: ‘This is genuinely one of the best brands I have ever worked with and the reason for that is because I believe we’re the perfect pairing.

‘They let me express myself – I am a fun loving person and whenever I do any content, I like to have fun and be as real as possible. But we have managed to merge the essence of Captain Morgan, which is lightheartedness and fun with what I do and I’ve had such a good time working with them and most recently we got Pete involved as well.

‘This is all in celebrate of the gold card, it’s like a Nando’s Black Card, you can get money off takeaways and possibly have a drink with me, we could be sharing a drink of Captain Morgan together. I promise you this is true, Pete and I have actually had a drink of Captain Morgan together virtually. We had something called the Mint Cooler, it’s banging.’

Sam explained to win the chance of owning a Captain Morgan Gold Card, and the opportunity to have a gaming session with YouTuber Spencer FC, all you do is tweet the brand’s Twitter handle and say what you would be willing to trade to get your hands on the exclusive prizes.

He added: ‘It’s not just Pete and I you can win a drink with, you can win a gaming session with Spencer FC – I am a massive fan. All you have to do to enter is @ Captain Morgan and say what you would trade to get your hands on a Captain Morgan Gold Card.’
