Schapelle said: ‘Everyone’s out at the horse races, and all dressed up, it’s nice to see those pretty dresses and hats.

‘I’m just here with Lucille because we don’t support the horse racing – but no grudges to anyone that does’.

The brunette continued: ‘That doesn’t mean that I can’t have a little beer myself’.

This comes after model and animal rights campaigner Imogen Anthony, 28, boycotted the Melbourne Cup and described the event as ‘barbaric.’

The ex-girlfriend of Kyle Sandilands wrote on Instagram: ‘Well, we lost another horse during Melbourne Cup today, because it’s Dark Tuesday, which is that annoying time of year where I merely attempt to remind you of all the horrors the Melbourne Cup unfolds.

Imogen added: ‘I still hate how they are treated during – whipping, excessive breathing leading to cardiac arrests, leg breaks leading to being put down etc) – but my big other issue is how they are treated AFTERWARDS’.

The brunette continued: 'That doesn't mean that I can't have a little beer myself'

‘Many horses are looked after (as I have had countless arguments with horse people in the past over it) but, as horse racing is gambling, gambling is money, and money means greed.’

Imogen went on to say: ‘Many horses that don’t perform well or even make it to the race have been sent to auction yards where bidders buy these animals to slaughter, or unless someone like me, goes and bids for them myself.’

‘How can we treat animals like this once we feel we have no more use for them? Horse people and others in the industry can’t even deny that’s the sad reality for most of these horses.’
