Selena Gomez gushes over Taylor Swift’s re-recording of Love Story: ‘SO proud of you!’

Taylor Swift’s fans – famous and not – are freaking out over the release of her highly anticipated re-recordings, starting with Love Story (Taylor’s Version) on Thursday.

Shortly after its debut Twitter exploded, as #TaylorsVersion became the number one trending topic on the platform, with Swifties gushing over the new more instrumental rendition of the 2008 smash hit.

One Swiftie in particular, longtime pal Selena Gomez, 28, joined the parade of congratulatory posts as she shared some kind words with the singer on social media.

Swiftie for life: Selena Gomez, 28, congratulates Taylor Swift on her new re-recordings and upcoming Fearless album as she gushes ‘SO proud of you’ on social media

‘SO proud of you, as always Tay…LISTEN to THIS album,’ the Wolves singer wrote.

The ladies first became friends in 2008 – around the time Taylor’s formidable music (including Fearless) was taking off – while dating each dating members of the Jonas Brothers.

‘It was the best thing we got out of those relationships,’ Gomez told KISS FM UK in 2017.

Swift was also quick to gush over their longtime friendship in a 2014 interview, saying that this type of supportive friendship in Hollywood was rare also calling it ‘very precious.’

‘When your life changes, and you become thrust into this really strange whirlwind where what your life is is different from what other people think your life is…Both of us have kind of stuck it out and hung in there through all the different changes we’ve gone through.’

The ladies performed on stage together most recently in 2018 during Swift’s Reputation Tour where they sang Selena’s hit Hands To Myself, and later Taylor took to social media to build Gomez up as they had done for each other over the years.

‘To the person I could call at any time of day, who has been there no matter what… you absolutely KILLED IT tonight and everyone was so excited to see you. I love you, and 60,000 people at the Rose Bowl loved you too.’

Now with the Fearless (Taylor’s Version) album available for pre-order ahead of its release, Selena threw her hat in early, or potentially had already heard snippets from her good friend.

She seemed to dig Swift’s fresh take on her high school Romeo and Juliet ballad, just the first of many ‘surprises’ to come since beginning to re-record in November.

Taylor’s new music has been the culmination of years of struggle to reclaim full ownership over her catalog following a nasty feud with Scooter Braun.

He ultimately sold the rights to her first six albums in November after acquiring her former record label in June, with Swift fighting tooth and nail to reclaim her masters and re-record them under her new label Republic Records.

Throwing ‘Taylor’s Version’ behind virtually every piece of work she is set to put out seems to be her way of letting the world know that she has regained both control and ownership.

The video for her fresh take on Love Story features old photos of the singer throughout the early days of her career, ending with a message of love dedicated ‘to all my fans.’

Previously teasing that some aspects of her re-recorded songs and albums would be different, fans were relieved to find that she did not alter any of the lyrics to her teenage love hit.

Speaking about the slight differences her fans could expect to hear on the ‘new’ Love Story track she told country radio:

‘One fun thing about rerecording Love Story is that I really wanted my touring band to get a chance to play on this version because you know they spent a lot of years playing this song over and over again.’

Touching on why she chose to release her 2008 Fearless album first, Swift said in an interview for Republic Records / MCA Nashville: ‘I always gravitated towards Fearless because I think that, as an album, it was a real coming-of-age.’

She continued, ‘And I look back on that album and it fills me with such pride, and it was an album about hope, and lessons learned, and the effervescence of teenage youth and all that. What more fun than to go back and explore that?’

Fearless will be 26-tracks long and will feature songs that she has always loved that never made it onto her various albums, though she said she ‘tried to keep it as close to the original as possible.’

‘The additional songs that I’ve added are songs that I think add insight into what the album almost was, because every time you make an album, you leave some songs off, and I think it’s really cool that the fans will get to have the full picture this time around,’ she added.

More of her fans flooded Twitter on Thursday with many quick to point out that she could now add ‘owned by Taylor Swift’ to her other song credits for the first time in her decade plus long career.

Though she did not explicitly say on Good Morning America (where she debuted her re-recording news on Thursday) that she would have Fearless to her fans by a certain date, fans deciphered the impending release when she strategically capitalized letters in her social media announcement on Thursday, spelling out ‘April 9.’

The process of re-recording while she was producing her last album Evermore made her feel ‘really proud of the sort of scope of things,’ she told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe in December.

She said that all the songs she’s written over the years are equally as ‘valid’ to her, as she spoke about evolving from writing about ‘troubles in high school’ to the musings of her adult life that are reflected in her recent albums.

‘I want to keep a lot of cool surprises for the fans until I’m ready to show them fully to everyone,’ she noted.

Swift bid her fans good luck on their listening journey Thursday via Twitter as she said, ‘I hope you’ll like this first outing as much as I liked traveling back in time to recreate it.’
