Simon Cowell, 61, ‘to complete 10k charity walk’ after declaring he feels ‘110 per cent’ amid broken back recovery

Simon Cowell will reportedly complete a 10k charity walk later this month after telling friends he feels ‘110 per cent’ amid his broken back recovery.

The media mogul, 61, has raised over £30,000 for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices after promising to complete the walk, despite the life-altering injury he sustained last year.

In August, Simon was rushed to hospital to undergo six hours of surgery after nearly ‘smashing his spine into pieces’ in an electric bike accident.

But a source close to the star told The Mirror that he is back on top form. They said on Wednesday: ‘Simon is back to full fitness and has been telling pals he feels “110 per cent”.

‘He jumped at the chance to do the charity walk as it’s a cause so close to his heart.

‘He has a contacts book bulging with celebrity friends and rest assured they will all be getting calls about donating.’

The source added: ‘Simon has been having intensive physiotherapy to get back on his feet and has been steadily building his mileage by conducting business meetings on walks around the block.’

MailOnline have reached out to Simon’s reps for further comment.

The Got Talent mastermind is expected to do the walk with his partner Lauren Silverman and the charity’s vice president Karen Sugarman.

The trio will complete the challenge to honour children who have passed away, after being supported the hospice charity in their final moments.

Vice president Karen said: ‘When the sunset sets on this day, we will be marking it by remembering the many families we have supported throughout the pandemic, loved ones and we will hang a special lantern on a tree to remember those we have lost.

‘Simon, Lauren and I would be so very grateful if you would consider sponsoring us and give whatever you possibly can.’

Simon has been using the last year to rebuild his health and fitness after injuring himself during an electric bike incident last year.

He reportedly came within ‘one-centimetre of being paralysed’ when he fell from the vehicle and broke his back in multiple places.

The entertainment mogul was rushed to hospital at the beginning of August when he fell from his bicycle whilst taking it for a test drive at his house in Malibu.

He was at home with his partner Lauren, 43, their son, Eric, six, and his stepson Adam, 14, at the time.

Speaking just days after the accident, a family friend told MailOnline that the father-of-one was ‘doing well’, but was in ‘shock and massive amounts of pain’.

They said: ’He’s in recovery and asleep. Lauren went with him to the hospital and has been allowed in briefly to see him. He’s doing OK in the circumstances.

‘He was in shock and in massive amounts of pain. He was outside in the courtyard in Malibu with Eric and Adam trying this new bike’

They added: ‘Simon’s had to have a big surgery, he’s got a number of breaks and has had to have a metal rod put into his back.’

‘When he fell off the bike he landed right on his back which broke in a number of places. It was six hour surgery overnight on Saturday.’
