Steven Spielberg set to direct film ‘loosely based on his own life’ with Oscar-winner Michelle Williams in talks to play role inspired by his mom

Steven Spielberg will step behind the camera once more to direct an upcoming film ‘loosely based on his childhood’, Deadline reported on Tuesday.

The 74-year-old, is reportedly already eyeing talent to step into roles that are near and dear to his heart and Oscar-winner Michelle Williams is said to be in talks for a role inspired by Spielberg’s mother.

Still untitled, the project will be produced through the Jaws director’s company Amblin Partners, according to the outlet.

The film is ‘loosely based on his childhood growing up in Arizona’. Deadline reported. 

The outlet added that Michelle Williams, 40, is already in negotiations for a starring role that is based on Spielberg’s mom but ‘with a separate and original voice.’

Other roles, including one based on a younger version of the Academy Award winning director himself, are currently being cast. 

Steven Spielberg will not only direct the semi-autobiographical story, but he will also serve as one of the screenwriters alongside Tony Kushner.

The film is scheduled to begin production this summer and slated for a 2022 release.  

In 2019, Michelle intimated that she would be stepping back from acting following the birth of her second child, however, she has been busier than ever recently. 

Prior to announcing that she was taking a step back from her professional life, Michelle had been cast in the upcoming superhero flick Venom: Let There Be Carnage. 

And, her time off was short-lived as she was recently cast in an upcoming biopic,  Fever, as well as signing on to the film Showing Up.

Meanwhile, it was announced last week that Spielberg is producing a series adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub’s 1984 fantasy novel The Talisman with the Duffer Brothers.  

The series has been a long time coming, as Spielberg has been interested in bringing the novel to the screen since two years before it was even published, according to The Hollywood Reporter. 

Matt and Ross Duffer, usually known as the Duffer brothers, will be helping Spielberg executive produce the Netflix series for his Amblin Television company and Paramount Television Studios. 

King will also take a hand in the adaptation as an executive producer.
