Strictly Come Dancing: Clara Amfo is the fifth contestant to be eliminated

Clara Amfo has become the fifth celebrity to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday.

The Radio One DJ, 36, bade farewell to the competition with dance partner Aljaz Skorjanec, 30, after landing in the bottom two with Made In Chelsea star Jamie Laing, 32, and pro Karen Hauer, 38.

As she received news that she would be the next star to depart the show, Clara said: ‘I’ve had the best time ever, the best time ever and got a new friend for life. I’ve loved it. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever ever done, it’s been a dream come true.’

A ‘gutted’ Aljaz shared some parting words with his dance partner, as he playfully combined her first name with a list of classic ballroom dances.

He said: ‘First I’m really gutted. All I really want to tell you is I’m so happy we got to do Lady Clamalade, the Claraston, which I’ve never done before in my life, the Clarasambafo you are a dream to be around, you’re a beautiful girl inside out, I hope that people at home got to see that.

‘This series has been so special and its only because of you, thank you so much. I’m going to miss dancing with you.’

Clara and Aljaz had failed to impress with their Jive to Tina Turner, scoring a paltry 19 out of 30.

Jamie and Karen were second from the bottom with 24 out of 30 points.

Both couples performed their routines again; Clara and Aljaz performed their Jive to River Deep – Mountain High by Tina Turner and Jamie and Karen performed their Tango to Tanguera by Sexteto Mayor.

After both couples had danced a second time the judges delivered their verdicts:

Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Clara and Aljaz, saying: ‘My goodness it’s a really difficult one, both couples I thought were absolutely incredible and danced with so much passion and love but the couple I would like to save, Clara and Aljaz.’

Best experience: Speaking to host Tess Daly, Clara said, 'I’ve had the best time ever, the best time ever and got a new friend for life'

Motsi Mabuse, who was returning to the show after isolating for two weeks, chose to save Jamie and Karen.

Motsi said: ‘I have to say this was one of the toughest decision I’ve ever had to make and based on that dance off only I saw one couple that did their choreography and had all the steps correct…

‘I saw another couple who had a mistake in the steps and in the timing. So I’m going to choose for me, I’m saving Jamie and Karen.’

Head judge Shirley Ballas had the deciding vote and chose to save Jamie and Karen.

Shirley said: ‘Well this is a very difficult series, I mean every couple is outstanding and I felt on this occasion that both couples totally lifted their game, but there was one couple they just convinced me.

When asked by Tess about her time on the show Clara said, ‘I’ve had the best time ever, the best time ever and got a new friend for life. I’ve loved it, its one of the best things I’ve ever ever done, its been a dream come true.’

When asked if he had any words for Clara, Aljaz said ‘First I’m really gutted. All I really want to tell you is I’m so happy we got to do Lady Clamalade, the Claraston, which I’ve never done before in my life, the Clarasambafo you are a dream to be around,

Marking Motsi’s return, Claudia, 48, said: ‘A huge welcome back to Motsi, we have missed you. How does it feel to be back?’, to which the South African dancer replied: ‘You know what, it was such a joy to watch from home on the couch but there is nothing better than being here. I love you so much, thank you guys.’

Anton Du Beke stepped in to cover the role after Motsi had to isolate due to an emergency trip to Germany.

The South African dancer caught a flight after her dance school was ‘targeted’ and worked with police to ‘solve the crime’.

The highlight of the night was when HRVY and Janette topped the leaderboard and got a standing ovation from the judges.

Craig labelled their lyrical Couple’s Choice routine to a Sky Full Of Stars by Coldplay ‘GOAT… Greatest Of All Time.’ He added: ‘Brilliant, absolutely amazing.’

While Shirley told Janette it was the ‘most amazing Couple’s Choice choreography I’ve seen, by far’.

Motsi added: ‘What a night to come back to. Unbelievable’.

Claudia told them: ‘You have made Strictly history, there have never been a perfect score in week 6. Craig’s first 10. You’ve never got a perfect score Janette. And you did it in those outfits. I’m so proud of you.’

The remaining couples will take to the dancefloor next week, when Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday 5th December at 7.25pm with the results show on Sunday 6th December at 7.30pm on BBC One.
