Sunrise host David ‘Koch’ Kochie ranks the Hollywood celebrities he’s interviewed from best to worst

David ‘Kochie’ Koch has interviewed hundreds of celebrities during his 18 years hosting Australia’s most-popular breakfast show, Sunrise.

And while reflecting on his encounters with Hollywood’s biggest stars, the 64-year-old ranked some of his notable interviewees from one to ten.

Speaking on The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Wednesday, Kochie sang the praises of one iconic British actress before slamming a major music industry player, as well as an acclaimed actor.

Savage! Sunrise host David ‘Kochie’ Koch has revealed the worst Hollywood celebrities he’s ever interviewed – including the heartthrob actor who was a ‘grump’ in real life

Kochie, who hosts Sunrise alongside Sam Armytage, was first asked to rank Canadian superstar Justin Bieber.

‘He’s a three! He was just a brat, well he was back then. [He was] Just a bit of a diva. One of our floor managers was positioning him for a song and gently said, “This is where you stand”, and he said, “don’t you dare touch me!”‘ he said.

‘But by the looks of it, he’s sort of grown up and matured and is quite a good boy now.’

Kochie then gushed over American pop star Katy Perry, saying: ‘She’s bright, talented, quick-witted, and effervescent. She did the weather better than our weather guy does. I’d definitely rank her an eight or nine!’

Radio host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson replied: ‘I have to agree with you on Katy Perry. In the whole time that we’ve known her, from the very beginning of her career to now, she’s never changed and has always been an absolute darling.’

'He was a brat!' David gave Canadian superstar, Justin Bieber, a three. He explained that Justin furiously told their show's floor manager 'don't touch me' when he was 'gently positioning' him to perform his song years earlier. David noted that he appears to have 'matured' now

Next, Kochie was asked to rate American actor and comedian Michael Richards.

‘He was annoying, and probably would have been a four!’ he said.

‘I’m a huge Seinfeld fan, and I was really looked forward to interviewing him. Everyone wanted him to be funny, and so I fed him a line to be funny, and he was deadly serious!

‘So I was like, “He’s being Michael Richards.” So I fed a serious line to him, and he was funny! I went, “Who are we interviewing here?” I’d give him a three.’

Radio host Kyle Sandilands noted: ‘When you’re doing an interview, you would expect everyone to be on their A-game because they are usually selling something – a show, a book, a movie.’

Jackie added: ‘It’s astounding how many don’t give a s**t. Just don’t bother then. I’d rather no interview than this.’

David’s enthusiasm suddenly sky-rocketed when he was asked about his experiences with Dame Julie Andrews, 85.

‘She a ten! I’m a massive Sound Of Music fan, so I had high expectations. I met her, and I fell in love. She was divine’.

Discussing their meeting further, David delightedly said: ‘We interviewed her on the show, and then [a few weeks later] it was Disneyland’s 40th birthday. We were there that morning on was the red carpet, and we were squeezed in between the two major American networks who didn’t talk to us all afternoon.

‘She was the ambassador for that Disney birthday, and she comes down the red carpet and looks over and goes, “hello Kochie, how are you?” and comes over and chats!’

David also had fond memories of his interview with Hollywood hunk, Matt Damon.

‘Fantastic bloke! Walked into Matt’s interview, sat down with him, and he goes, “I love your boots”. He was absolutely charming and normal. He’s a great guy and a ten.’

Despite forgetting to give her a rating, Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis, 61, also didn’t let David down during their interview.

However, in stark contrast, Jackie explained that their interview with the original Scream Queen didn’t turn out as they had hoped.

‘Jamie was fabulous… until I told her Karl was a [Donald] Trump supporter, and she turned on a dime!’

Kyle added: ‘She stood up, got angry and walked out. At the end, she gave me the look of death!’

Meanwhile, David dubbed Australian actor Hugh Jackman ‘fantastic’ but jokingly confessed he took offence to him jumping in the pool when they both stayed at the same resort years earlier.

‘He was training for Wolverine. He comes back from a run and dives in the pool, everyone going gaga! Despite that, he would be a ten’.

Things took an infuriating turn as the topic of Oscar-nominee Harrison Ford was brought up.

‘Okay, he would be a two!’ David proclaimed without hesitation.

‘He’s one of those grumpy blokes that I was talking about before, where I said, “you obviously don’t want to be here!”‘

When asked by Jackie how the Blade Runner star reacted when his interview with cut short, David amused: ‘Well, you couldn’t tell, he had a grumpy face the whole time!’

Jackie added that they had a similar experience with Harrison, saying: ‘We went to his hotel room, and we had the same vibe.

‘I felt like he was sitting in a very inappropriate way. He had major man-spreading in my direction. One [leg] was hoiked up on the arm of the lounge chair’.

Kyle shockingly noted: ‘You could see the shape of his testicles!’
