Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac talks about life in lockdown with his new girlfriend Elle Whittaker

Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac has spoken about life in lockdown with his new girlfriend Elle Whittaker.

Appearing on Nova 96.9’s Fitzy and Wippa on Wednesday, the popular TV host – whose real name is Sam McMillan –  said isolating together has been ‘intense’, but a positive experience for their relationship. 

‘There is definitely positive to it (staying at home), I mean I’ve got a new girlfriend now so I’ve got time to actually spend with her,’ he said.

The weather presenter added: ‘We’ve only been official since just before isolation, I got her at the pre-isolation sale! I got her just before it all happened.

Producer and co-host Sarah McGilvray noted that it was ‘pretty intense’ for the couple to decide to stay together in lockdown, considering they haven’t been together for that long. 

‘Yeah, it is a bit intense, but so far so good,’ he said.

 

Sam explained that Elle, who works as a communications adviser for Qantas, had cleaned up and renovated his terrace into an outdoor space to relax and work from home. 

Co-host Fitzy chimed in and said that it was a ‘big step’ in their relationship to go to Bunnings Warehouse together.  

‘It really is! The truth of that story is it was not only Bunnings, it was IKEA and Kmart,’ Sam laughed, ‘The holy trinity in the one day!’ 

Back in March, Sam revealed he was seeing Elle during a weather report.

After his Sunrise colleagues joked that his girlfriend didn’t exist, he reluctantly shared a photo of the couple on Instagram.

While it’s unclear how long Sam and Elle have been dating, he was pictured on social media with a bikini-clad blonde woman nine months ago.
