Superman is set to REUNITE with The Batman as costumed extras film scenes in locked-down Liverpool (but is all as it seems?)

Filming for The Batman has been well underway in Liverpool, despite the city being placed into the highest tier of Liverpool.

And it seems there maybe a surprise reunion on the horizon, with the Caped Crusader set to come face-to-face with Superman.

But before fans flood social media with their delight, it appears that all is not as it seems, as Kal-El is actually part of a group of costumed extras filming scenes for a Halloween party.

What’s going? Superman looks set to make a surprise appearance in The Batman, as costumed extras filmed scenes for a Halloween party in Liverpool on Friday

As filming for The Batman continue, a huge number of extras headed onto the streets of Liverpool in an array of superhero costumes.

Among was one dressed as the heroic Superman, complete with the iconic red cape and Hope brandished across this chest.

Sadly it won’t be Henry Cavill reprising his role as the legendary, as instead a young extra dons the costume to film the Halloween scenes.

Robert Pattinson – who will play The Batman/Bruce Wayne himself –  was not present during the scenes, having been previously seen recording the funeral of Gotham’s mayor.

Liverpool is currently in a Tier 3 lockdown with restrictions including a ban on socialising with other households indoors and in private gardens while pubs and bars are also required to close.

It was revealed last Wednesday that filming had started on the highly anticipated film, after the cinema release date was delayed until 2022 due to fears over the novel coronavirus pandemic.

An insider previously told MailOnline: ‘Today is the first day the main production unit has returned to filming and there seem to be no other hiccups at the moment.’

Meanwhile, a Warner Bros. Pictures spokesperson confirmed: ‘Following a hiatus for COVID 19 quarantine precautions, filming has now resumed on The Batman in the U.K.’

Warner Bros. vans were spotted in the city centre as workmen hauled props into St George’s Hall.

Filming for the £100million movie is expected to last around a week with roughly 100 actors and crew sticking to strict quarantining rules.

However, many are questioning whether filming will continue after the Prime Minister announced the city was being placed into a Tier Three lockdown, with a host of new restrictions coming into force.

However, there is no mention of the film industry being affected in the latest guidelines, while guidance provided by the British Film Commission has also not been updated since September 29.

Liverpool will play an important role in The Batman as American filmmaker Matt Reeves, who is directing the upcoming superhero film, revealed recently at DC FanDome, a virtual convention held by DC Comics and Warner Bros.

During an interview, he confirmed Liverpool would be the backbone for Gotham City as they shoot the remaining 75 per cent of the film.
