The Beach Boys’ Mike Love rocks out with a guitar-slinging John Stamos during Concerts In Your Car at the Ventura County Fairgrounds

Drive-ins have experienced a resurgence in popularity due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

And The Beach Boys’ Mike Love treated fans of the trailblazing band to a socially-distanced show during Concerts In Your Car in Ventura, California on Friday night.

The 79-year-old was joined onstage by John Stamos who performed passionately with a custom electric guitar in hand.

Stamos, 57, lived out his rockstar fantasies in a fitted black dress shirt and a pair of matching trousers, which allowed his patterned guitar strap to pull focus.

Love kept casual for his outdoor concert debut in a blue and white striped button down shirt and a pair of faded blue jeans.

He had a cloth face mask tucked under his chin and his lush white hair poked out from beneath a light blue ball cap.

As if the evening’s concert could not get anymore exciting, Mike performed a duet with none other than Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath.

The 52-year-old vocalist looked beyond psyched to be singing alongside the music veteran as he wailed away into his portable microphone.

However, Love was not joined by fellow founding Beach Boys members Brian Wilson and guitarist Al Jardine.

Wilson and Jardine also publicly voiced their abhorrence over Love’s recent decision to play as the Beach Boys at a fundraiser for President Donald Trump.

After tonight, Love, his makeshift version of the Beach Boys, and Stamos will be making their way to San Diego, California and Phoenix, Arizona to perform two more drive-in concerts.

In a recent interview with USA Today, Mike expressed his excitement over performing in front of a contactless crowd as he reflected on the importance of drive-ins during his youth.

‘It was such a big deal when we were dating in high school,’ Love recalled to the outlet. ‘Going to the drive-in theater was standard procedure, you know?’

He added that his drive to get back on the road was fueled by the ‘disappointment’ felt by the band and their crew as they remained out of work during a large portion of the pandemic.

‘We did the payroll protection thing, but that ran out a while ago. So it’s just been a challenging time for us,’ he admitted.

But instead of relishing in the pandemic panic, Mike decided to channel his energy into song writing, which led to the creation of his latest track This Too Shall Pass.

‘It’s meant to recognize the effect on all the people and give some accolades to first responders and doctors and nurses that are on the front lines of this whole thing but also give a little bit of hope,’ explained Love of the song’s meaning.

Mike told USA Today that the inspirational single was recorded in nine different locations and that Stamos played the drums featured in the song.

He added that the Full House actor also produced a coinciding music video.
