The Block judge Darren Palmer says neighbours should be ‘happy’ the renovation show came to their street to raise housing prices

The Block took over a quiet cul-de-sac in Hampton, an upmarket suburb in Melbourne’s south-east, for the show this year.

And according to judge Darren Palmer, neighbours should be ‘happy’ that the renovation program moved into their street.

Taking questions from fans on Instagram Stories on Monday, Darren was asked, ‘What do the neighours on the street think of The Block?’

He answered: ‘I can’t speak for anyone but I [imagine] that having a build done in 3-4 months instead of 6-12 months with 5/6 dwellings instead of 100 plus would make me happy.

‘Especially if the new sales increase my property value,’ he added.

The Block’s five couples took their houses to auction on Sunday night’s episode.

Jimmy and Tam were crowned the winners with a profit of $966,000, on top of the $100,000 cash prize.

The Brisbane-based couple were understandably ecstatic, with Tam remarking after the bidding: ‘Oh my goodness, can you believe that just happened?’

Tam and Jimmy chose to go second in the auction order, with a reserve price of $3,290,000.

Meanwhile, Jimmy and Tam ‘smashed a record’ for the hit show pocketing a near $1million profit after their home went under the hammer.
