The Block scandal: Inside the mysterious life of cyber security specialist Emese Fajk

The Block has been rocked by its biggest ever scandal, after a mysterious buyer was accused of failing to pay for the home she won at auction in November.

At the centre of the controversy is cyber security expert Emese Abigail Fajk, a 28-year-old woman who bid a whopping $4.2million on Tam and Jimmy’s home before failing to stump up the money.

Ms Fajk, who also goes by the last name Fayk, was born in Hungary and previously lived in New York City, before relocating to Australia a year ago.

Prior to living in the US, Ms Fajk was based in London, where she attended university, according to her LinkedIn page.

Ms Fajk also previously ran a company called Anakin Consultancy, which offered services in ‘counterterrorism, peacekeeping and cyber security’.

She previously boasted about her company’s successes in her official bio on the TedX website, claiming that her clients included Apple and the United Nations.

According to UK Government records, Anakin Consultancy was established in 2017, but was dissolved in September 2019.

The records also show that Ms Fajk didn’t dissolve her company voluntarily – instead, Anakin Consultancy was forcibly struck off the register by the UK government.

Ms Fajk previously boasted about her company’s successes online, claiming that Anakin’s clients included Apple and the United Nations.

However, she resigned from her role as director of the company in 2017, records said.

‘I’m a thrill seeker and adrenalin junkie and this reflects in my everyday life, that sometimes means that the office for a week moves to a military base or to a war zone, or I go bungee jumping in Japan, because ‘it would be rude not too… [sic]’,’ she wrote in her TedX website bio.

Last month, Ms Fajk made headlines when she placed the winning bid on Brisbane couple Tam and Jimmy’s $4.2million home on The Block.

Ms Fajk presented receipts of bank transfers indicating the money for the home had gone through, but the large sum never reached Channel Nine’s bank accounts.

The settlement date for the Brighton property, which fetched $4.256 million on auction day at a profit of $966,000, was on Monday, and the original contract is now void.

The devastated Brisbane-based couple choked back tears as they told A Current Affair how they’d been left blindsided by the strange turn of events.

‘Here we are now not knowing what’s going to happen. It’s something no one ever saw coming, no one ever expected, but it’s something we now have to deal with,’ Jimmy said.

When confronted by Nine reporter Alison Piotrowski, she insisted she had paid the deposit for the property and had receipts to prove it.

‘I’m trying to find out what’s going on,’ she claimed.

She then took to social media to claim she had been ‘thrown under the bus’.

‘I didn’t get forms in time that I needed to sign, I had to find crucial information on my own, even though I paid someone else to make sure there are no hiccups,’ she wrote.

‘I still believe there is a happy ending here somewhere for everyone involved.’
