The Block’s Deanne Jolly told to pipe down during courtroom sook

The Block’s Deanne Jolly needed to be told to keep quiet after a courtroom outburst against Daily Mail Australia in Melbourne.

Jolly fronted the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday where she faces multiple allegations of domestic violence.

Her appearance came just weeks after her estranged partner Darren Jolly fronted the same magistrate on domestic violence charges of his own.

Unlike her ex, who was forced to front Ringwood magistrate Ian McGrane in person, Deanne was able to appear by video link from home.

She was also represented by lawyer Julien Lowy, whereas Mr Jolly had to represent himself in court last month, claiming he could no longer afford a lawyer due to the cost of ongoing Family Court proceedings with his ex-wife.

The former AFL star, 38, faced 10 domestic violence charges dating back to last year.

Daily Mail Australia can reveal Deanne faces two domestic violence charges related to breaches of previous court orders, which cannot be mentioned for legal reasons.

The charges, which are all non-violence related offences, include allegations Deanne made inappropriate contact with her alleged victim.

Her lawyer asked the court for a short adjournment so that discussions could be held with prosecutors with a view to resolving the matter.

When the minor matter of releasing Deanne’s charge sheets to Daily Mail Australia was discussed, the ex-celeb did not hide her disappointment.

‘Sorry Deanne, there’s not much I can do,’ Mr Lowy told her via the video link.

Moments earlier he had told the court he was not surprised an application for the documents had been made.

‘It’s going to get some publicity,’ he said.

When Mr McGrane queried about the Daily Mail Australia, Deanne could hold her tongue no longer.

‘They’re a salacious tabloid your honour,’ she interjected.

Mr Lowy jumped in to try and diffuse the situation, to no avail.

‘Yep, I won’t say anything,’ he told the court.

Deanne continued to interrupt the proceeding, claiming she was only concerned about the welfare of her daughter.

Accused criminals in a magistrates’ court are not permitted to address the magistrate when represented by a lawyer.

Mr McGrane, who is a long-time, respected magistrate, warned Deanne to remain silent.

‘Ms Jolly, you’ve got a lawyer who has been paid to speak for you,’ he said.

‘I’m sorry your honour,’ Deanne replied.

‘Better to let him do the talking otherwise you might get further publicity,’ he added.

Mr McGrane adjourned the matter to return to court in July.

It is the same month Darren Jolly will return to court over his criminal matters.

Jolly revealed on Instagram in October that he hadn’t been in contact with his two daughters, Scarlett and Lily, since splitting with Deanne in September 2019.

Fast forward to January and the former footy great set off alarm bells when he shared a troubling Instagram post where he claimed he could not ‘go on much longer’.

He was found safe, with his new girlfriend later taking to Instagram herself to advise he was ‘receiving the best care he needs right now.’

Last month, a forlorn Jolly was told he faced 10 charges for breaching court orders.

Appearing in a black polo shirt and jeans, Jolly said he planned to contest ‘most’ of the charges.

‘Except for the breach of the 200 metre rule from the house when I dropped off the birthday cake,’ he said.

In Jolly’s October Instagram post, he referred to the alleged ‘cake incident’.

‘Is it parental alienation if you (are) not even nominated as an emergency contact for your own daughter at school? Is it parental alienation if you send birthday presents and bake a birthday cake for your daughter that you have been denied from and get no acknowledgement?’ he wrote at the time.

When asked if he had legal representation, Jolly said he planned to represent himself at a contested hearing.

‘I do have a lawyer in Family Court proceedings that are continuing, but (in relation to these charges) I’ve opted not to have a lawyer because I can’t afford one anymore. I’ve spent too much money on them,’ he said.

Outside court, Jolly looked despondent as he walked back to his car alone.

He declined to comment when questioned by Daily Mail Australia at the time, claiming he ‘wasn’t allowed’.

Darren and Deanne Jolly were popular contestants on Channel Nine’s renovation series The Block, appearing twice in 2014 and 2015, and winning the latter season.

Jolly has made no secret of his battle with mental illness since the split.

Last year, he spoke candidly at AFL club Collingwood’s annual general meeting about his business troubles and the breakdown of his marriage.

‘Spending three weeks in a mental facility to deal with depression. Leaving my 15-year marriage because I fell out of love and wanted a happier life,’ he said.

He told his former teammates his mental health became so bad around that time that he ‘almost did something stupid and ended [his] life’.

‘Everything was too much to handle and I lost control. I lost my drive to keep going, I lost my purpose in life, I lost my direction and I lost my path. I thought it was easier just to go,’ he confessed.
