The Project’s Carrie Bickmore embarrassingly forgets the word for ‘beetroot’

Carrie Bickmore suffered an embarrassing moment on The Project on Monday, when she forget the word for ‘beetroot’.

The 39-year-old panelist was interviewing newly eliminated MasterChef contestant Simon Toohey when she made the embarrassing gaffe.

Carrie’s co-host, Waleed Aly, had asked the 33-year-old chef for advice on getting his kids to eat their vegetables. 

‘I remember Jerry Seinfeld’s wife [Jessica Seinfeld] brought out a cookbook, and in it she had a secret recipe that you should put – what is the deep red thing that makes you poo red?’ she asked.

A bemused Simon offered, ‘Beetroot?’, prompting Carrie’s co-hosts to burst out laughing at her forgetful moment.

But the embarrassed TV presenter clearly wasn’t put off by their reactions, and continued with her story.  

‘Yes, she used to put beetroot in – don’t look at me like that!’ she told a laughing Peter Helliar. 

‘She put them in brownies and she said putting veggies in cakes is the best way to make your kids eat vegetables.’

But Simon said that after adding ‘two cups of sugar’, the beetroot was likely to lose any nutritional value it may have had. 

The MasterChef fan favourite was eliminated during Sunday’s episode, after failing to impress with his broccoli dish.  

Judge Jock Zonfrillo described his dish as ‘underwhelming’ and ‘overcooked’, and even Simon admitted he was unhappy with it.

‘I’m just not 100 per cent happy with it. And I just really hope this doesn’t send me home,’ he said before his elimination.
