It initially admitted 40,000 customers were affected, but an investigation by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has revealed the impact was much greater.

As the ICO levied its £1.25m fine yesterday, it said up to 9.4m Ticketmaster customers may have been affected, including 1.5m in the UK.

Ticketmaster said it intends to appeal the fine.
