Time to boogie! Convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby is set to appear on the new season of Dancing with the Stars

Convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby will appear on the new season of Dancing with the Stars. 

And it seems the foxtrot, tango and jive are the least of the 43-year-old’s worries.  

‘I’m not a big hugger and I didn’t realise how much body contact I would have to do,’ she told The Daily Telegraph on Thursday.

‘It is something I’m not used to and through my time in rehearsals this is something my dance partner and I are working on.’ 

Schapelle has been paired with dance partner Shae Mountain, with the two currently undergoing rehearsals in Brisbane. 

The controversial star, who revealed she she used to dance as a kid, went on to add she was concerned she would get stage fright on the new series.

‘I am nervous I’m going to freeze up, go blank and forget all my dance steps,’ she told the publication. 

So far the only confirmed stars are Home and Away actress Ada Nicodemou, former Daily Edition host Tom Williams and Fox FM radio presenter Fifi Box.

Other rumoured cast members include Luke Jacobz, Lincoln Lewis, Bec Hewitt and Erin McNaught.

Renee Bargh is also tipped to join the reboot as a ‘wildcard’.  

Meanwhile, TV legend Daryl Somers, who hosted the first seven seasons of the light-entertainment program, is said to be returning for the new series.

Seven will begin filming DWTS at Sydney’s ICC theatre in March, and the program will air later in the year.

Meanwhile, Schapelle made a brief appearance on the first season of SAS Australia last year.

She voluntarily withdrew from the military-style show in episode two when the selection course proved too demanding for her. 

In October 2004, Schapelle became a household name when she was arrested at Bali airport with 4.2kg of cannabis wrapped in plastic inside her boogie board bag.

The world watched in May 2005 as she broke down in the Denpasar courtroom after being sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment.

Following a series of sentence reductions, Schapelle was released on parole in February 2014, having served nine years behind bars.

She lived in Bali with family until she was deported back to Australia in May 2017.

The former beautician has always denied knowingly importing drugs and maintains the marijuana was planted in her luggage by corrupt baggage handlers.
