Tom Holland revealed as Nathan Drake in the highly-anticipated Uncharted movie

After more than a decade in development, the highly-anticipated Uncharted movie is finally happening, with the first look at Tom Holland as Nathan Drake.

Holland, 24, shared the first look at himself in character as Nathan Drake on social media Thursday, as production resumes.

Filming had previously gotten under way in March, but had stopped shortly thereafter due to the COVID-19 virus spreading. 

‘It’s nice to meet you, I’m Nate,’ Holland said in his tweet, along with the photo of himself in character as the young Nathan Drake.

Naughty Dog, the video game company that developed the Uncharted franchise, also tweeted a photo of Holland alongside Nolan North, who voiced Drake in the video games.

‘Find someone who looks at you like Nate looks at Nate. @unchartedmovie,’ the video game company tweeted 

North also tweeted the same photo, along with photos of two items from the set, a gold scepter of some sorts and a book.

‘Like looking into a mirror! Proud to have @TomHolland1996 continuing the Drake legacy! Absolutely smashing it! Thanks for the set visit!!’ North stated.

The video game series began in 2007 with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, which follows Nathan Drake, a treasure hunter who travels around the world. 

Development on the Uncharted movie started just a year later in 2008, though it took 12 years to get off the ground, with a number of writers and directors coming aboard and ultimately leaving the project.

Mark Wahlberg, who was once slated to play an older version of Drake, has now been cast as Victor Sullivan, a.k.a. Sully.

This movie is said to be a prequel to the games, following a much younger Drake and showing how he befriended Sully 

Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) is directing from a script by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man), based on the Naughty Dog video game franchise. 

The cast also includes Antonio Banderas, Tati Gabrielle and Sophia Ali, with Holland revealing on his Instagram story on Wednesday that production wraps on Thursday.

Sony Pictures has set a July 16, 2021 release date for this highly-anticipated Uncharted movie.
