She said: ‘We are talking to the BBC. They are a corporation and in a corporation there are many cogs and those cogs move extremely slowly.

‘So basically what you’ve got, it’s me, Will, Ralf and all three of us are just going “yeah, we’re here, we’ll do it” and the BBC are going “ah brilliant, yeah let’s do it” and I’m sort of sat here going “ok, when?” and they do “well, we don’t know”.

‘So, what we’re got is a corporation that has no idea.’

MailOnline has contacted a BBC spokesman for comment.

The show, which has been off air since 2011, ran for over a decade and also starred Sheridan Smith, Kathryn Drysdale and Natalie Casey.

Susan said she wasn’t sure if the female characters would also be returning for the comeback series.

She explained the new show will focus on Gaz and Jonny finding their way through the ‘Time’s Up’ movement

Susan said: ‘I would like to pick up the story with two ageing working-class geezers in a pub combating the terrible things that we say about men at the moment. Some men might not understand that the bad guys exist.

‘I want to see the comforting story of people like Gaz and Jonny, who live in a world where bad guys don’t exist. I want them to acknowledge the bad guys are out there though, but I don’t want Gaz and Jonny to be them.’

It comes as Will recently claimed he hasn’t spoken to Sheridan, 40, for four years, following the end of the programme in 2011.

Speaking to The Mirror, the actor said that the recent Friends reunion gave him the nudge he needed to want to get back in touch with his Two Pints colleagues.

However, he said: ‘I’ve not seen Sheridan or spoke to Sheridan in four years. I rang her for a while and just nothing, so I don’t know her any more.

‘I wish her all the best, but she hasn’t called me in years.’

MailOnline has approached representatives of Sheridan Smith at the time for comment.

Two Pints of lager was a show that ran from 2001-2011 focusing on the lives of five characters as they navigated their 20s in their hometown of Runcorn in Cheshire.

The show came to a natural end with most of the original cast having departed the show by 2011, after Ralf Little left after series six and Sheridan Smith and Kathryn Drysdale leaving after the eighth series.

Since departing the show, Sheridan has gone on to have a successful career in TV, film and on the stage.

In 2015, she was awarded an OBE for her services to drama.
