‘I am on a calorie deficit and have been for about ten weeks, I’ve lost quite a lot of fat and gained muscle and I’ve been putting myself through the mill – all essentially just for one shoot.

‘I won’t choose to live this way after that shoot’s over – hopefully people will see what will be a great physique and it can be quite a tricky road to that and it is just whether people want that.

‘I think people should be encouraged to look and feel however they want to.’

Spencer confessed to feeling ‘knackered and hungry’ as he adjusts to the new regime, with Vogue weighing in on living with the hunk during his transformation.

She said: ‘ Grumpy. You’ve been grumpy. You’ve gotten used to the starvation’.

Spencer replied: ‘Vogue gets something in her head from a couple of weeks ago and I’ll forever be grumpy now.

‘The first couple of weeks were quite tricky…It does sap your energy; it has been harder at work and concentration has been low and it has changed how I operate. But the photo will be good!’

Speaking on a Tap Into Success webinar for Nicorette, Spencer said: ‘There was a really good chance that my wife would have left me if I carried on drinking the way I was drinking. For the first time in my life I put her first.

‘Usually the old me would have said, “Do you know what? Fine. If you don’t like it then get out.” I had this really kind of selfish “me before anyone else” streak before.

‘When I realised I cared more about her than I do perhaps myself, and that I was making her see less in me, that gave me a real burning desire to be better for her, initially.’
