Most guests are forced to dip into their savings or get into debt to attend weddings, a survey has found.
At £460, the average cost per person to attend a wedding has left many worrying about their finances, according to wedding website Hitched.
The survey of 2,886 found that 40 per cent had gone into credit card debt, their overdraft or personal savings to attend.

A further 10 per cent have had to ask for contributions from parents, friends or family members to help with the cost.
And those travelling abroad for the nuptials had, inevitably, to shell out even more – £897, on average.
According to the survey, which looked at all the costs linked to a wedding, the biggest expenditure for guests were the hen and stag dos – which set them back £166.
Of those surveyed, 86 per cent thought this was too expensive and almost half said they would now be declining invitations if they cost more than £100.

The survey, conducted in July and August, was based on people’s experiences last year and the beginning of this.
Weddings were banned when lockdown began on March 23, affecting 73,600 ceremonies.
As of this month, 30 people are allowed to gather at sit-down receptions in the UK.
One thing that is not a turn off for guests is the current pandemic.
The majority revealed that they hoped to attend a wedding despite Covid concerns.
The good news for many is that during the current health crisis, they can expect to see a lot more UK-based weddings and pre-wedding celebrations with brides and grooms-to-be opting for smaller ceremonies closer to home ends.
